I just had a surgery on friday and they prescribed me with doxycycline...it is giving me really bad growling and the worst heartburn! I have been waking up at 3 am for the past two nights and not sleeping any longer and then i have to take another one at 9 am... by this time i am exhausted. I am having breathing problems, very rapid heartbeat and like i said really bad heartburn.I can't take anti-acids for a few hours after. I plan to go to the doctor tomorrow and see if theres a different antibiotic they can prescribe me. I didn't take any today and I just need reassurance that I am doing the right thing and that I choose the better solution, NOT to take the doxycycline for today. I'll be okay for the next 24 hours without antibiotics, right?

I appreciate any advice you can give m

You should phone your doctor or local hospital for advice so it will not make your treatment longer.

I would call your doctor and ask him to call in a new antibiotic prescription to your pharmacy. Sounds like you are having an allergic reaction to the doxycycline. I had a horrible time to that stuff. I was hightly allergic to it and switched immediately. There are several other kinds they can give you. Dont take anymore till you speak with your Dr. If you cant get ahold of him then go to the ER and explain you just had surgery and need something else. They can give you a script as well. Best of luck

My personal beliefs are: we all take too many antibiotics anyway. My oral surgeon gave me some when I had a tooth extracted and I asked him why. He said just in case. I told him well I would not take them UNLESS I got an infection and he could deal with that. I'm not taking antibiotics when I don't need them. That is one reason that we have so many time that antibiotics don't work because we allow our bugs to become immute to them by taking them when we don't need to.

Since I don't know what kind of surgery I would advise you to call your Dr. and ask him. He should have an emergency number.

GO TO THE ER!!! Not taking a dose of antibiotic after a surgery can be dangerous! I learned the hard way and got sick because an infection because I thought I didn't need them. You need to go to the ER and get IV Antibiotics ASAP!!!!!

I wouldn't wait until tomorrow. If your doc can't see you today, find one who can, or just show up at the hospital that did your surgery. At the very least, they should be able to get you an alternative antibiotic until you can consult with your doctor.

call the doctor who prescribed the medication. when you skip doses or go without you make matters worse. this is how superbugs are created and if you've ever heard of MRSA, this is how it originated. it is NEVER a good idea to just skip your antibiotic without first consulting a doctor

you should be fine for a day. The anitibiotics are only to stop you from getting an infection since your immune system is weak after surgery. By now your immune system should be stronger. You may not even be in an environment with bad bacteria and there probably isn't any infection from the surgery by now.
