So we just bought a flat screen t.v. I'm not into the giant t.v.s but we bought a 42 inch - which is big enough. We could put it on a stand or we could put it above our fireplace. I would love to have it on a wall (fireplace) instead of a stand, for space issues. My husband said you can't put it about the fireplace because people don't want to look up at the screen from a sitting position. What do you think? Where is the best place.

I don't think above the fireplace is a good idea. Fireplaces can REALLY heat up a home sometimes and what if the heat does something to your TV? I suggest a stand

I would put it on a stand. It might save space to mount it about a fireplace, but i know that i love to sit in front of the fireplace and watch tv. Your husband is right- It might hurt your neck if you look up at it for too long also.

I wouldn't do it if it were mine, after about 5 minutes you'd probably get a bad head or neck ache. My brother did this at their cottage and it's almost impossible to watch for more than 10 minutes. The heat from you fireplace may also void your warranty if you had problems with the set in the future.

i've got heard that it particularly is no longer a sturdy concept to place your flat panel television above a fire by way of surplus warmth which would be generated by ability of the hearth. LCDs and Plasmas are already especially warm. Plus, it may be too extreme for gentle viewing. Your television could take a seat so as that the middle of the reveal greater or less at eye point.
