It is just the way it is and has always been. There are less women than men in boot camp and only one boot camp is required for females.
There is no guarantee that you will be stationed in Utah, it all depends on what MOS you qualify for and receive (MOS means the type of work you will be doing).
Kick back and enjoy the cruise!

To start with only two recruit training facilities exist on the Marine Corps; Parris Island SC and San Diego CA. Pendleton is a regular base though a portion of the recruit training is held there because of space limitations at MCRD Sand Diego (the field training portion) most is at San Diego. It is not economically feasible for the Marine Corps to have two Woman Marine recruit training areas for the same reason th Marines only have the two recruit training bases for males-size and numbers; it would cost too much money to establish a second Woman Marine Recruit training area/command at San Diego when the numbers trained would mean it would not be in use all the time. Parris Island does it all now so it would mean about half the year not enough female recruits would be available to train so the facilities would be wasted and that means wasted money. The chances.odds of you staying at Parris Isalnd after training is extremely small; after that you would go to formal school for your MOS (job) training and then to what ever Marine Base you were assigned too. Often from the schools you will be given a choice of which of the available bases you want to go to based on your grauation ranking.

The Marine Corps is very strict about segregating women and men during basic training. The San Diego recruit depot is for men only, so ALL women go to Parris Island. Reason being is that once the initially facility for Recruit training, and they already had the facilities to accommodate women. Not enough women enlist in the Marine Corps to warrant adding an area for them in San Diego...largely because the Marine Corps isn't designed to be that large. Once you are done training, you will go on to Marine Combat training, likely in South Carolina. Then you will go off to whatever school is required for your MOS. If you are interested in the local base in Utah, it would greatly depend on whether your MOS is needed there, and even then, no guarantees. Be very sceptical if a recruiter says otherwise. Unless you are Reservist, the odds of you getting something close to home is slim to none and the recruiter has NO SAY WHATSOEVER!!! That call comes from a very different person stationed in Quantico, VA...called a Monitor.

There is no reason to add a second female boot camp in California at San Diego (the existing male facility) because of the low numbers of women in the Marine Corps. Camp Williams is a National Guard base, unconnected with the Marine Corps.

this is a simple one
1. Parris Island has the facilities that would be required with a large population of females in a controlled environment.
2. If women were at both the Marine Corps would have to spread its assets across the country including having more female Drill Instructors to handle the two seperate areas...That would be difficult. As it is it is RARE to find a suitable candidate to train the worlds most elite fighting force. To find a suitable female candidate is even harder due to the amount of females that are enlisted that remain and become eligible.
3. i am sure there are more reasons but those two are the major ones.

It's either San Diego or PI for the men or PI for the women. It's more cost-effective to have training in one place for the women so that the best training money is spent. Camp Pendleton is after-boot camp training..

Probably because there's no bootcamp at Camp Pendleton. Females don't go to MCRD San Diego because that's what the Marine Corps said. I would imagine it's a numbers thing, and there aren't enough female applicants to warrant a second female MCRD location.

Odds are you won't stay at Parris Island. There are a lot of different places Marines can go. Where you go will depend on your MOS and the needs of the Corps. I don't know if the Marines will put choice of duty station in your contract, but you should ask the career councilors at MEPS. If asking doesn't work try demanding. They can do amazing things if they think you might join the Air Force instead.
