Let me tell you a little story.

Once upon a time, when I was teaching in Africa, there was a little crippled demi-orphaned beggar girl who used to come around my house and pester me for handouts. One day she asked me if I believed in God. When I said No, she got very agitated. I said, "Look -- you've met one person in your life who doesn't believe in God, and he's paying for your education. There are twenty million people in this country who do believe in God, and not one of them will pay for your education. Why do you think that is?"

She replied, "You let God worry about dem."

What do you think she meant by that?

A third-generation freethinker

God will take care of them in his own little way. Obviously a child who has had God drilled in to her head, because at some point in their lives, that was their only hope. That God will somehow provide, whether it be directly or indirectly. That some how, some way, God will provide. He sent you to this place to meet this child, did he not? No one will ever know the answer to that for sure, but this child probably believes this to be true. So she can't understand how you can not believe in God. She is also probably too young to really understand the whole picture. So in her mind, God sent you to her.

This little girl was worried about your eternal destiny; she was worried about you missing out on the love of God through Jesus.

Jesus told a story about a Shepherd and his flock of sheep. One time a single sheep went missing and the shepherd left the others and went out and searched until he found his lost sheep. He put it across his shoulders and rejoiced as he walked back to his flock.

This small child knew you were like that lost sheep. So she wasn't interested in talking about money and education, she was concerned for you. She wanted you to stop looking at what others do and do some business with God for yourself. God loves you and wants to have a loving relationship with you. Why do you think this child's remarks still come to your mind?

You are a freethinker, but have you ever really found out what the Bible says for yourself? If you don't know what it says then you aren't a freethinker, you're a non-thinker. There are several good books that deal with things in an intellectually honest way: Evidence that Demands a Verdict, by Josh McDowell; The Case for Christ, by Lee Strobel ( former atheist) :) Bye!

What a cute story. I guess she was wise, because (whether there is a God or not) we all should look at our own actions and disregard the actions of others. We only control one puppet in this life, and it's our own body. The others are not for us to decide about, and we should not concern ourselves overly with their actions... I really love her answer.

Conversely, I suppose if we all make our reality, then they would all have to answer to their God for their action or inaction and you wouldn't have to worry about that at all - for your reality would have no such thing to answer to.

Congratulations, no matter which way the winds of thought should blow, you have discovered that we all are only responsible for our own actions - and that others' actions are none of our business to a large extent. Our right to judge stops pretty much at the end of our own nose.

Pagan and not Godless or Goddessless at all, but a serious thinker who enjoys such discussion very much,

She means that u do what u wanna do and let God judge them 4 what they wanna do. In other words, don't bother urself.

Anyway, according 2 the bible, ur on a one way course 2 hell unless u follow Christ. Believe, Trust me.

WOW! I think she meant that it is not up to US to be concerned with other people's beliefs or lack of them.

You were trying to make yourself seem like a better person than Christians.

By the way, how do you KNOW that "not one of them" was helping?

1 Timothy 1: 15 Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners

Luke 5: 32 Jesus is saying, I have come to call, not righteous persons, but sinners to repentance.

Smart girl - she's right - let god worry about his un-Christlike behaving followers who cannot follow the precepts presented in the religion. He'll take that issue up with them someday.

She basically meant worry about yourself and what you do, not what everyone else does.

Or as american moms would have put it - if everyone jumped off a cliff, would you ?

in her mind she figures God will punish them as seems fitting to Him. in the meantime she wants you to believe in God so that you will be saved. she figures that your good works will not be enough to get you into Heaven. she was likely quite concern about you. worry about yourself and God will take care of the other ones.

She maybe meant that that God will judge them.
