no...maybe your parents or your children who are the ones that believe in god and want to send you off into the afterlife. a funeral is as much about the people you leave behind as it is about you yourself.

With God there is never a reason for a funeral, only eternal life.

No, you can have a Humanist funeral like my late mother. Or, you can get a group of friends to come and talk about you at your funeral. Just like getting married in a registry office instead of a church or deciding not to have your children christened.

No, a funeral is simply a way for those left behind to have a final good-bye to the dead. They had funerals long before Moses made up your god.

I think this is something for those left behind.
Even the ancient pagans had a form of burial service. So belief in god only seems to govern the place of the funeral.

Absolutely NOT...anyone can have a Funeral...whether you believe in God or not has nothing to do with it..!!
The thing is they cost ALOT of money...and for me I just want to be cremated...I don't want people crying over me...I would rather have a memorial service, and have everyone tell stories about me...and this is what I have already told my family to do...they know my wishes...and this makes me feel better about the whole thing.!!

a funeral is not for the dead it is for the living, if I was married to Christian she would want me to have a funeral; would that be wrong? no! because I would be dead and I wouldn't care as long as it helped her to say her goodbyes.
I personally will be leaving my body to Science, my wife is an Atheist but she is not happy with this decision; I have had to have it written in my will!!

Of course not...a funeral is an opportunity to say goodbye to a loved one. Whatever you believe happened to that loved one when they died, one fact is that they won't be with you again for perhaps a long time...or even perhaps forever (depending on what you believe).

A funeral is a ceremony to commemorate a deceased person, pay respects and bury/cremate that person with dignity. A funeral may be religious or secular.

Nope - a funeral is for the living -the dead don't care.

However, you can dictate- before you die - whether your funeral is religious or secular.

We had a lovely funeral for my mom in law when she died - very atheist. We skattered her ashes in the ocean (in an acceptable spot to do so)and the boat captain merely talked about how she would be missed and the type of person she was. (and yes, he could do this because he'd spoken to her many times- she arranged it when she knew she was dying) No religion at all.
