Do you mean as a pet? Rats are my personal pick for a pet, and I have had both hamsters and rats.

I would choose a rat if you want a pet to play with and cuddle - they are very social and really love bonding with people. If you ever want to get more than one pet, rats usually do well with new buddies. Rats like more time to play with their people, kind of like dogs, so if you don't have much time to play with a pet, don't get a rat, or get two so that they'll have a buddy to play with.

Hamsters can also be fun, but are harder to socialize and usually do not like people as much. With a lot of time and patience, they can become friendly, too, but in my experience they usually are not as social, and unless you have a pair of siblings that grow up together, hamsters do best living alone.

Both can be wonderful pets, and I loved mine all dearly. Try Petfinder.com under the "small and furry" category to search for ones up for adoption in your area - this way you can save a life and find the perfect, healthy, well-socialized pet!

I suggest you get rats instead of a hamster as they're cleaner, friendlier and are trainable. They don't bite, and they are NOT disease carriers The average life span for a rat is around 3 years. Make sure, if you do decide to get rats, to get them from a breeder, that way you can rest assured that they have been handled from a young age. It's better to get a pair instead of one as rats are social animals and unless you can spend all of your time entertaining one, two is the better option. Females are smaller than males, and they tend to be more active. Males are cuddlier. A lot of rat fanciers compare them to dogs. Their eyes aren't red unless you get a red-eyed one and they come in a variety of colors.

Rats are more interactive & friendly toward you than hamsters tend to be. They learn their names & the tail isn't so weird after you get used to it-- I love when one of our rats wraps his or her tail around my hand.
We have 5 rats (2 boys & 3 girls) & 1 dwarf hamster & I've had lots of both over time. I would definately say a couple of rats (either 2 boys or 2 girls) if you want someone who will play & cuddle with you.

You can have two or more hammys (dwarf hamster) get one cuz they more cute and have nice tails that arent creepy. but if u really want a rat get one. and the only two diseases hamsters carry are rabies and thats only if it is contaminated with an animal that has it because hammys dont host the disease, and the other disease is if you give them bad food.

Hope I helped!!!! good luck!!!!!

sure, hamsterbecuz and rat. How's that? Hamsters are cuter in my opinion. Rats have that icky tail but are easier to hold and cuddle.

I've had both, and defiantly RATS ARE BETTER!!!
If you put them down they don't just run away and they will sit there and wait like mini dogs :)
Good luck!
