Like, for example, could i put more wood at the bottom to make it stronger?

or would i have no other option but to buy and new bed frame for a waterbed?

You would need to build a whole frame. The bottom would need to have supports so the bed would evenly disperse the weight. Then you need sides to keep the matress inside it. Probably easier and cheaper to buy a used frame at a Thrift Store.

you need the sides also to support the large amount of water. That much water without side support would blow.
