the distance away depends on the availability of pitch for the waste pipe. you need an 1/4 inch minimum pitch per foot where i live. Example: if you have 2 x 10 floor joists you have 9 1/2 inch available pitch. you can only go 38 feet away.

The test is not how far, the test in minimum - the septic field must be a certain distance or more from the house for safety.

Ours is a couple hundred feet. I don't think it matters.
