This is my mom's 8 month old cat. He jumps up on the table while they are eating and helps himself. He almost rolled over into mom's spaghetti the other night. They put him down, he jumps back up. They say no, he is happy to be acknowledged. Water gun, rolled up paper, swat his nose--it is all fun and games. He is not afraid of anything. Any other ideas?

One pet supply catalog has a device you can put on a table or a piece of furniture. It sends out a pulsing sensation that scares the animal off. I don't know if humans can use the furniture with the device in place. Does your kitten jump up when people aren't using the table? Another option is to put the cat in another room with his own food.

I have to laugh at the image of a cat rolling around in spaghetti, though!

Try an old pop can or soup can with coins in it. You will have to be very diligent and shake it every time it gets on something you don't want it on. Also, say off every time as well and eventually you will be able to just say the "off" command and the cat will jump down. This is how I trained my cats to stay off the table. They also don't like the hissing sound. Make a loud hissing sound and clap at them.
Good Luck

Remove the cat from the equation. When he does something inappropriate immediately put the cat in a kennel or a closed bathroom.
The cat will learn quickly...be consistent because cats are persistent.

It sounds like you have a very sociable, playful cat! I would say set up a time to play with your cat aside from dinnertime, and distract it while you eat with something it will like. I don't know your schedule, but if you have 10 minutes to play with him while your mom gets dinner on the table, that might eliminate the need for him to try and get you to play while you're eating. Cats like to play in fast and furious bursts, so it's pretty easy to wear them out. Generally a cat who is being annoying is one who needs some play time to burn off some energy. Also, after you play with him, and tire him out a little, what about feeding him at the same time you are going to eat? I give my cats a small (tablespoon) each of canned cat food (Fancy Feast) for their evening treat. They have dry food out all day, but this is their treat, and they love it. I feed them this evening treat in the bedroom and close the door for them to eat. After that they groom and then nap in the bedroom. That gives us time to cook (I like them in the b/r when I'm cooking, so they don't come near the stove), eat, clean up, etc. I let them back out with us when we are through with dinner and chores and relaxing for the evening. You will need to change the routine the cat has established of getting you to play at your dinnertime, and you will need to be consistent, as one post said. Cats learn a routine and stick with it.

Have you tried putting him in a kennel? I don't personally have a cat, but when my dog mis behaves he gets put in the other room away from everyone without toys... even when he whines nobody pays attention to him.. Hope it helps!

try a spray bottle on fine mist It confuses them and they can't play with it. it makes them sneeze and collects in their whiskers which are very sensetive. If that doesn't work you are going to have to shut him out of the room.
