1.- The Surgeon who fights the death, keeping many persons alive at any cost to praise God and serve the needy?

2.- Or the person who knocks at the Surgeon's door practically saying:
"Come join us or you are condemned, only us are saved".

1.- Men are supposed to be holy too, it is in the Bible "let the holy be holy..."

2.- Jesus said himself afterlife is more important, and Lazarus was resurrected to show God's glory, yet Jesus wept for the suffering of his relatives, and all were happy to see him alive again, and many glorified God for that.

i'd say the first, as he helps others although he is fighting a loosing battle he is giving people a chance to make ammends for anything they feel they may of done wrong
the second could annoys people and in all likelyhood turns people away by their annoying cold calling methods so by a christian definition is it better to damb more than you save???

To quote Mr. Spock, "insufficient facts always invite danger". It would be dangerous to judge either person with the limited information you provided.

The surgeon is doing his job. The wording you used was unclear...were you saying that the reason he chose his profession was to serve God by helping those less fortunate? If so, then his actions are holy and merciful. However, if he only helps people who "need" him AND can afford to pay him enough for him to live in a mansion, collect rare cars, and own a condo in Hawaii he visits once a year, then his decision and his actions are more likely motivated by self-interest...that isn't holy or truly merciful.

We know even less about the person who knocked on his door. Was the message they delivered the truth...and were they compensated in any way for delivering it? If yes to the first and no to the second, then they are "holier" than the surgeon who saved lives primarily to serve himself. More merciful is a different story...anyone that condemns someone else without knowing them...particularly if they are basing their decision on whether the person has joined a particular church...is hardly behaving mercifully. ...and if they are saying it to a surgeon who has sacrificed his time to help people that can't afford to pay him...someone who helped others in order to thank and praise God, then they are clearly ignorant of the concept of mercy.

What Terry said.

Seems that very few tend to pick number 1. What if that surgeon wasn't there, and the future...I don't know...the parents of the second-coming Jesus (like Marry I guess) was sick, but since the surgeon wasn't there, she died and no second coming for you? And what good does option two do you for? Other than to annoy the living crap out of a majority of everyone who they go to? I'd opt for option one, since THAT person is doing some good in life. However, you cannot combat death, you cannot vanquish death, only delay it.

If the surgeon is keeping many persons alive to praise God and serve the needy, he is equal to the person who is trying to save lost souls?!

Since Holiness belongs to Jehovah God (exodus 38:26) , no one is truly Holy, but one can be righteous. Also in psalms 3:8, it says salvation belongs to Jehovah, so it is not something we can earn, it is only by God's undeserved kindness we can be saved through the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, to give ourselves a good chance of salvation, we must try and practice what the Bible says and excercise faith in God and the prospect of salvation.

What are you talking about? Do you have a serious question? Why do you state only us are saved? Everyone can enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 6:33 Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness and all these things will by YOURS as well..

I think if I needed an operation, I would concede your point willingly and choose the surgeon as much holier than myself. Keep up the good work.

How do you know the surgeon isn't an evangelical Christian? I can certainly think of some doctors who are.

Come to think of it, I can think of a surgeon who is a Catholic.

Only God is holy. Any Christian knows that.

Well no one is. All fall short of the glory of God innit. So everything has to be in Christ. It's all grace.
