It depends on where you are. I've had people buy me coffee in a gas station outside of ft. Lewis because I was in uniform, and I've seen people flying an American flag with a swastika spray painted on it in monterey CA. I didn't understand why they would deface the flag in that manner, but I still defend their right to.

A Goth Bar is the last place a couple of soldiers should be hanging out at, especially in uniform. If they were in their dress uniform they were either noobs who didn't know any better or they were looking for attention. The only safe place to go in uniform is a military friendly bar, a country bar or the VFW. Every other damn bar around has nothing but stupid college kids who are being misled by their liberal whiny baby professors.
The uniform is a reflection of what the individual looking at is feels. It's the same situation as if a Cop walked into a biker bar. That cop is making sure the biker dudes can enjoy themselves, but he'll still catch crap.
It's probably also because they were all jealous. We do look good in our uniforms don't we.
I'm so sexy.

The regulation is that you cannot hang out at a place in uniform where serving alcohol is the primary function. Uniforms can be worn offpost to restaurants, gas stations, and pretty much anywhere else that doesn't have the primary purpose of serving alcohol. The guy above that said uniforms can't be worn off base is off. That said, only douchebags would hang out at a bar in uniform. It's also possible that they were on Courtesy Patrol, which is when a member of the military is tasked to hang out in a bar and make sure the military guys in the bar don't cause trouble. That would explain the scorn towards them, as CP is a big buzz kill. This is only likely if you live near a military base, though. Otherwise they were just attention whores.

That's a shame. I always treat any military man, or woman with the utmost respect. It's because of them that I'm free. People should be jailed for mistreating our military heroes that are responsible for our freedoms. That's just me.
Edit: Those "young ladies" were probably some Liberal Fermi-Nazis.

If they were at a bar in uniform they were in essence violating military regulations, that prohibit wearing of the uniform off post, unless they are going home, or coming to work.

Why do you dislike the military so much?
BTW. An American military uniform gets more respect than an ACLU card, no matter what you think.

Too many civilians are a22 holes and could care less about helping out this great nation of ours.
These people have not served so they do not know what it is like. They are cowards and hate the fact that our service men are trying to make themselves better.

Sounds to me like a lack of respect on either the soldiers' part or the ladies' part...as I was not there, I can't tell you which...as for liberal mentality, in those situations I respond with the following:
The Soldier
It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

The uniform should not comand respect. The people wearing the uniform should be shown respect for the duty to our country.
