Its against the law to put her in direct combat roles. Meaning she cant be put in the role of infantry.

But She can be put in a non direct combat role that serves in a combat enviroment. Such as a MP or motor Transport.

They all end up in the combat enviromant. Just look at how many female personel have died in Iraq.

I'm not sure about the front line business, but she will be doing whatever they are training her for. If she is training for an office job that's what she will be doing. You said you don't get her joining; well please support her even if you don't get it. The military is a life changing experience and most of the time it is really good for the people who join. But I would like to say that she will need your support and encouragement while she is in Boot camp, it is not easy to be away from your family and the military work you HARD when your in Boot Camp. It's all about discipline. So be a good friend to her and encourage her. Hope this helps.

I was promised by my recruiter that I would spend my entire enlistment behind a desk, but I spent most of my time in Iraq as a gunner on convoys. That happened to some of the women too. Recruiters lie. Everyone who enlists can go to war. Everyone who goes to war is expected to be a soldier or a Marine. If your friend doesn't understand that, then she needs to slap herself in the face and reconsider, or she could get herself or someone else killed.

Wrong! The laws have changed. Women can now serve on combatant ships, flight fighter planes and very much DO serve in front line combat units.
While you don't mention which branch she's enlisting, I can safely say, as with the Marine Corps, regardless of your MOS (job title/description), bottomline is, everyone is an infantryman. Be they lawyer, mess cook or latrine scrubber, push comes to shove, everyone gets a little trigger time.

OK Watch This

WE ARE STILL AN ALL VOLUNTEER FORCE!

Stop blaming Recruiters, Stop thinking The Armed Forces is the easy way out, and Please Stop Thinking too much.

Let me answer your question with a question OK?

When was the last time you heard of a war with-out Soldiers?

Yes, then the worm has definitely turned for you.
Soldiers rather male or female fight in wars

But no one is forcing them at least not in the great US of A.

We offer a lot of benefits to serve nowadays but please take into consideration we are nation at War and you will earn every benefit you receive.

A good example of what can happen. A female soldier was part of a resupply convoy, not a combat maneuver or patrol. They got ambushed, she was injured and held hostage. She was very fortunate that some Marines just happened on her wear abouts and were able to rescue her.

AAAHHHH!!!!! Woman...I swear to god...if you don't stop freakin out about your girlfriend joining the military I'm going to kick you in the face.

She's already told you not to tell her recruiter that you two are lovers so why do you keep putting your life out there for everyone?

Keep women out of combat? We should have never allowed them to learn to read and write. Them there's man stuff. Yall women folk need to get back to the stove and make me some dinner. (*sarcasam*)

as for women not doing direct combat jobs.. that is true... as for a woman not being in combat.. false. the war now doesnt really have a "frontline". also, most of the fighting happens on convoys. no one ever said that she couldnt be in a convoy. also, yea... she'll go to iraq if her unit deploys. as for her sitting in an office, it really depends on her job. i know women who sit in offices make sure people get paid and get their leave and what not.. but i know women who are on aircraft dropping troops off in the middle of nowhere, and also, getting shot at from time to time..

It is possible that your friend, depending on her military occupational specialty, would never go off the FOB if she were deployed to Iraq. I would venture that half the Soldiers over here don't go off the FOB.

But that doesn't mean it's not going to be dangerous for her in Iraq.

your 'friend' is severely clueless. THERE ARE NO FRONT LINES any more. she can and WILL be in a position of taking enemy fire regardless of her job. Shoshanna Johnson was a cook..she was a POW. Lori Piestawa was a driver..she DIED for her country.

your friend WILL DEPLOY. It is inevitable. she may or may not be anywhere near actual combat. she doesn't have to be directly involved in order to be affected.
