chocolate milk hands down. the milk sugar will help to replenish muscle glycogen stores and the proteins will help to jump start the recovery process.
Gatorade provides no nutrients and it contains high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which should be consumed as little as possible as it is nothing but detrimental to the health

MILK. I used to always drink water and never used to think that, until I read an article in the Globe and Mail (very credible, Canadian newspaper) that showed in a long term study of hundreds of people, the group that drank milk (skim, 1% or 2%) after a workout, rather than Gatorade or water, burned MUCH more fat and gained more muscle. Having chocolate milk rather than white would simply give you more carbs than white milk for energy and of course it tastes better! So go with milk! :)

Usually, it is good to have a drink with a carb-protein ratio of 4:1, 15-20 minutes after a run. While chocolate milk may have lots of sugar, it will be beneficial for you since it will easily restore your glycogen levels which were depleted from running. In other words, it won't turn into fat, so don't stress about it.

You need sugar and protein after a workout. You need sugar to replensih the blood sugar you lose when working out and you need protein to repair damage you've caused to muscle. Gatorade is better during or before your workout while chocolate milk is a very good post workout drink.

Water is best, but gatorade will replenish electrolytes (if this is necessary). The chocolate milk will just feel really heavy and make you produce more mucus. Also it will probably have extra fat and sugar that you don't need.

Neither. Water is by far the best choice for rehydrating after a workout.
