My son Preston is 10 years old and just broke his wrist playing ice hockey. His championships are in 2 weeks but he wont be getting his cast off for another 5 weeks. He wants to play in the championship but my husband and I refuese to let him. What is something that we could do to devert Prestons attention to something else until his wrist is healed?

GOOD CHOICE on your part! Have him be there for the team in other ways- Support them all he can.....He is still a part of the team, right? Let him show his strengths by being @ the game, sitting with the Team, and showing his support this way. I hope this helped. I also wish him a speedy recovery. Good luck and take care!

Perhaps you should use this time to teach him other ways to support the team. Life is full of choices. Some require discipline and courage. We do what we have to do. We sometimes do what we want to do. It is good that he wants to play. It is better that he learns to choose something else understanding that his wrist is injured. He probably doesn't want to make that choice, but it is good that he does. Again, look for other ways to support the team. Look for hobbies. Look for other interests. A cheap set of binoculars might fuel an interest in birds. Hiking and trailing animals might be an interest. Has he considered story telling or writing? I bet he has a marvelous imagination.

Good luck! He will always want to play the game, but he can learn to choose and be happy with something else.
