Define "intelligent." It probably involves a lot of ideas that are unique to the human experience. So in that sense, we probably are the only "intelligent" life.

We can speculate forever, skycat. What I think
is, considering the enormity of the cosmos. Then to start thinking along the lines, that we are the only planet that is able to sustain intelligible life, is
arrogant, at best. When you also look at at how our one and only home, planet Earth is being abused and stripped of it's natural resources, something has got to give. Man has me convinced they are far from the ONLY intelligent life.

The intelligence would be unquantifiable in any useful way.
We would never find out how a lower intelligence can recognise a greater one or what the attitude of a greater one would be to us.

Scientists have found that dolphins are as smart as us. I've heard somewhere that someone actually decoded the dolphins' speach, and they found all they talked about was food. Even if there was inteligent life on other planets I wonder if we would have anything in common to talk about.
