It would be about the same because people with find other excuses to kill and oppress each other. Pseudo-science, race, political beliefs, lifestyle, sex, etc.; are just some of the excuses that people will continue to use instead of religion.

I'm not a fan of religion, it has been the cause of a lot of violence on this planet. But I also know that many people are naturally violent, and will always fight...if not for religion, then for money, land, or other reasons. I really don't think the world would be too different without religion.

Atheistic Communism has certainly killed more people than any other ideology in world history, even more than japanese and german nationalist racist facisms because communism had a longer time to kill and enslave.

If people lived the ethics of ,say, Christianity, Buddhism,Hinduism and Judaism the world would be a marvelous place but even adherents of these religions when they get positions of power or pursue them break the major commandments and precepts.
Atheistic ethics tend to be revelativistic and could contribute to codifying "Might makes right' but most atheists i know are certainly no worse "bad livers" than most of those who claim to be members of some religion.
I think the world would be much worse off without the ethical teachings and charitable works of devoted religious people.

It is not religion, but religious extremists who cause the problem.

I don't think that all atheists would make the world a safer place. There are good and bad people in every group, atheists included.

My opinion is it's not ppl's spiritual beliefs, it is organized religion that causes so many problems. It's like politics & ppl are sucked in. I always liked Lennon's song "Imagine" (imagine there's no religion too) b/c it is true that more antagonism goes on in this world over religion (which usually affects one's political views as well).

I just wish everyone would respect that fact that each person has a right to their own beliefs. Personally, I don't believe that a Creator would ever choose "one right religion". That just plainly doesn't make sense to me.

Most religions/spiritual paths have the basic core same beliefs anyway, if you study them.

I hate ppl who are pushy about their beliefs & feel it's their duty to try to change other ppl. I think that's very selfish & egotistical.

There are a LOT of wars caused by religion (we're in a religious war even now, aren't we?), but I don't think the absence of religion would make people in general better...sometimes bad people are just bad people no matter what they believe in.

The world would be as peaceful as a jungle full of apes and Baboons.
Most wars aren't about religion, but rather territory, resources, and slavery.

Religion has caused more death. Myans, Aztecs sacraficed for religion. Crusades, Witch burnings, Inquisition, Irish catholics and protestants, most problems in middle east.
But I think if it wasn't religion it would probably be something else. For some reason we have the need to control or kill what we cannot control.

Religion has caused more war, death, bloodshed, mayhem, misery, torture, tyrannical insurgency, more massive amounts of intimidation through superstition and paranoia than anything else in human history.
The reason religion in America became more secular in nature is because of it's separation from government.
If it ever gets a foothold in our government, the fanning of the flames will begin again. Or maybe it will use lethal injection.
