I never bother I buy them but always make all the other accompaniments to an Indian meal

onion bhajis

Ingredients:
5 medium sized Onions
1 fresh Green Chilli
2 tsps Laziza Ginger & Garlic paste
200g Gram flour (Besan/Chickpea Flour)
100g Rice Flour
½ tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Curry Powder
¼ tsp Chilli Powder (or to taste)
2 tsps Ground Cumin
1 tsp Ground Coriander
Salt and Pepper to taste
Water

Instructions:
1. Finely chop one of the Onions and the Green Chilli.

2. Sieve the Gram and Rice Flour into a large bowl and add the Curry Powder, Chilli Powder, Ground Cumin, Coriander, Salt and Pepper. Now add the finely chopped Onion and Chilli.

3. Slowly add water, whilst stirring the mixture, until you get a thick batter.

4. Now, coarsely chop the remaining 4 Onions and add them to the batter. Mix well, and leave to stand for 10-minutes.

5. Heat a Deep Fat Fryer to 190C – and carefully lower 3 or 4 golf ball sized Bhaji’s into the oil. Remove when crisp and brown.


Onion Bhaji

Ingredients
2 free-range eggs
3 onions, sliced
120g/4oz plain flour
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp cumin seeds
3 tbsp vegetable oil, plus extra if required



Method
1. Beat the eggs in a bowl.
2. Add the onion rings and mix well.
3. Add the flour, ground coriander and cumin seeds and stir well to combine.
4. Heat the oil in a deep-sided frying pan over a medium heat. When hot add a large spoonful of the bhaji mixture and fry for 30-45 seconds, until golden-brown.
5. Turn the bhaji over and fry for a further 30 seconds, until crisp and golden-brown all over. Remove and drain on kitchen paper.

The local Indian a couple of miles away, delivers fantastic meals, I know they are good because my Pakistani mates get them from there. If you watched Delhi Belly they could not find a Bhaji in any restaurants in India, I think it must be like Chicken Tika, A Western invention.

no but then i dont really eat them either ! My mum doesnt make her own though...its just easier to buy them but im sure homemade ones are lovely

yes...the above recipe is BOLLOCKS!
there is no place for curry powder in any shape or form in indian food
