Stomach* surgery meaning what?
Getting your stomach stapled?
Liposuction?

In my opinion exercise is the best way to lose weight, but I understand that some cases are too severe and require surgery. If you specify what type of surgery we might be able to find you a cost.

gastro bypass is the surgery you are talking about adn you will need to have a few consultations with your doctor before you can even get recomened for the surgery. They will usually ask you to go on a diet plan for so many monthes and to lose a certain amount of body fat before the surgery can be done, this is because of many reasons including the thickness of the fat layer which determines how hard this surgery is going to be to perform (the longer you are under, blood loss, anastetic, complications), the risks associated with general anastetic and your weight and if you are a good candidate.

This surgery will significantly cut the size of your stomach which essentially makes you feel hungry all the time but you are unable to eat a whole lot to fulfill this need. That is how you lose the weight (you will be forced to limit food intake and as such will HAVE to make healthy choices on what you eat.) You will have to diet to get your body use to such a high calorie cut and so your doctors can monitor this.

Depending on where you are to and what insurance you have you may have it fully, partially or not at all covered (and this could be determined on your doctors recommendation) In Canada most provincial health cares will cover it if it is because of other related health complications such as knee and back strain.

You have to be at least 100 pounds overweight with a BMI of 40 or above. OR you have to have some medical problems caused by your excessive weight, high blood pressure that can't be controlled with medication, high cholesterol, joint problems, asthma, etc. As far as the cost, it depends on the type of gastric surgery you have. Lap-band surgery is cheaper than having a gastric by-pass and then there are several different type of gastric by-pass. Check with your local hospital and see if the procedure is performed there and which doctors in your area do the procedure.

Please try the Atkins diet before doing drastic surgery that might have serious (or deadly) consequences.
You can lose all your weight eating great things like bacon & eggs for breakfast, cheeseburger & salad for lunch, porkchops & vegies with real butter for dinner, and eat as much as you need to keep full and never go hungry. The secret is no carbohydrates. It isn't fat that makes you fat, it's carbs because they cause jumps in insulin, which breaks the carbs down into fat that can be stored. think about it, if you want your car to burn gas, do you put sugar in the tank? If you want to BURN fat, you have to EAT fat. But no carbs. only the small amount of carbs that come from veggies.
Please do yourself a favor and get Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book and read it, try it, your health will improve, and your weight will go down, which will relieve the knee pain.
Save that thousands of dollars for surgery to buy new small clothes when you reach your goal, and you will reach it!

If you do nothing else, please at least read this one page:
