Even though there are passages in the Bible that say Christians should take care of the earth, they see it as a very low priority.

Why?

When you see the earth as just a temporary, transitory place and that the "real" world is the one in the sky, why should you really take care of it?

They also see themselves as so far above animals (because they have souls, and animals do not) that it doesn't really matter if things go extinct.

They think it is better just to use it and leave it.

I can't possibly imagine your teacher having a right or wrong answer to that question unless he/she is extremely biased. Pick a religion and support your answer with facts from that religion. If you consider Hedonism a religion, you could totally pick that. What religions have you studied in class? That might help you better determine what your teacher is looking for.

PS- As a Christian, I find some of the answers on here about Christianity to be pretty silly. Just because a nut job like Ann Coulter said we should rape the land doesn't mean that's Christianity's doctrine. Just because some of the Christians you know don't take better care of the world doesn't mean it's not a priority for Christianity either. For Christianity, you should really ONLY look at what the Bible says. That's what I do, and that's why I try my best to do my part in respecting the planet.

Sounds like a religions class, and as is typical with religions classes, there is no "right answer" only "answers done right."

You could take any religion, even an Earth centered one like Wicca, and twist it to meet your requirements. Now, you'd have to Really, Really twist Wicca to suit the class, since it's about worshiping and taking care of Earth :P So I don't recommend that one.

But Christianity would be an easy one to pick, since there's Tons of easy access info on it. All you have to do is take the numerous passages in the Bible, most of em in Genesis, about how God gave Earth to mankind to use as they will. For food, for their "dominion" whatever they want. It also teaches Christians to be good to whatever they own... like slaves.... so you can easily take it from the angle of God giving the Earth to mankind as a "slave" and as is directed, they're supposed to be nice to their slaves.

Doesn't mean they can't beat the slaves when they don't do as desired, and the same could be extended to Earth.

Hedonism is technically more in lines with what your project is about, but Christianity would probably be easier to research.

Sorry, don't know of any specific religion whose doctrine is "Do what you want to the planet:". However, most religions are more concerned with what they believe than the effect their beliefs have on the planet. So, I conclude that most religions meet your requirements.

Christians:

Gen. 1:28: "And God said to them 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.'" Source: The Bible.

"God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours.' Source: Ann Coulter on Hannity & Colmes, 6/20/01

"I get these environmentalist whackos coming to my seminar all the time. They'll say "Well, trees have rights. Animals have rights". And I'll say "I think oxygen molecules have rights too and you oughta quit breathing". Source: Kent Hovind,

Atheist:

"We are going to have to find ways of organizing ourselves cooperatively, sanely, scientifically, harmonically and in regenerative spontaneity with the rest of humanity around earth... We are not going to be able to operate our spaceship earth successfully nor for much longer unless we see it as a whole spaceship and our fate as common. It has to be everybody or nobody."

What kind of a question is this for a school anyway? Chrisianity presupposes that the world is here for the benefit of christians, and the vast majority of those who abuse the resources of the planet the most are chrisitans....

It's more of a philosophy than a religion, but Hedonism essentially says do whatever you like to make yourself feel good.

Revelation 11:18  And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Hope this helps.

GOD bless
