Try turning your back on her and pretending you don't want it. She's kind of playing keep away and the game won't be fun for her anymore if her play partner doesn't want the toy. She'll probably follow you with the toy in her mouth. When she does give it to you, you need to throw it for her again that very second. Then she'll come to realize that if you get her toy, the game's not over - she'll still have fun.
If her habit's really ingrained, try having a 2nd toy and throw it instantly when she brings you the first one.

Your dog is playing fetch with you, not you playing with her. She's dominate, you are just a member of her pack. Those roles need to be reversed. If she doesn't release it on just the first tug, with or without a command. Stop playing and walk away. Only stay and play when she puts it down at your feet. She's not likely to do even this if she thinks she's the pack leader. Giving treats is affection at the wrong time. No treat at all would be better. She wants to please you. Pleasing you then affection is all she needs. Work on being her pack leader. A walk of 45 minutes will help establish that. No pulling or wandering off where she wants to go. She stays next to or behind you and stops when you stop. When she does that, it's time for some of that affection. Be patient it will work. Reward only the behievior you want.
Charlie.
ps. I have two black labs. The're the best to have. Good luck.

She probably just wants the toy herself to play with it.All dogs like to play the game "tease".Just be very firm and take the toy away from her when she will not let you have it.Then throw it again keep repeating this until she willingly gives the toy to you. When she does give this toy too you show affection and maybe give her a treat, just reward her and after she finds out that when she gives you this toy she gets rewarded she will most likely begin too bring you the toy almost every time you throw it.But be very Firm when she doesn't give it too you and scold her just say "No" In a very firm speaking voice, but whatever you do DO NOT YELL AT HER!Dogs have feelings and she might even think of it as a game if you yell at her.

My Lab mix loves to play fetch. But I will throw it and he will go after it but won't bring it back.
But if I change to a toy he wants he will bring it back till he gets tired of playing.

She wants you to play with him more by trying to get the ball off him if you pretend not to play with him he will drop the toy infront of you, if this dosnt work you can train him to play fetch, also if non of this works show her a treat and then throw it or put it somewhere far away so that she drops the toy and then you can play with her again.
Hope this helps!:)

Have two toys... as she comes back make sure she sees you have the other toy to throw... tell her to "out" and as soon as she does then throw the other ball... as she is picking it up say... bring.
Keep this up and eventually she will tire slightly and then is a good time to get her to sit or down... It will finally end up that she sit in front of you and "out" the ball into your hands...
takes time..
but just think of all the play and bonding that will be going on in the next couple of weeks with you and your Lab
Good Luck

Keep using the treats coupled with a word such as 'give'. Until she learns what she needs to do she's not just going to instinctivly give it to you. If you tell her to give and she takes off with the toy...game over. Turn your back and ignore her. Do not continue to play her game. Games should start and stop on your command. It's a good pack leader excerise.

Do not wrestle around with her. My dog used to do the same thing. Just ignore her until she drops the ball at your feet. She'll get ti sooner or later. Also obedience schools may help. I say the you give him soemthing that he mildly wants then show him something he would really want ( a favorite toy) then tell her to drop it. when he drops the old one to get the new one give it to her and then praise her. Again it will take some time and diligence

She has you well trained.
Try saying "drop it" and turning your back to her when she returns with the toy. Keep your back turned and ignore her until she drops it. Then praise her and throw the toy again.
It will take a while, but she will eventually get the idea.
BTW... Labs are cool.
