I am very sorry to hear of this tragedy. When a person stops breathing, brain damage begins to occur within 3 minutes, by 15 minutes, very few people are still alive and brain damage is usually severe. Comas sometimes protect the body from severe damage or death by slowing down most functions. Possibly, the child had very shallow respirations that were mistaken for no breathing. Young children have a much larger capacity to recover from a coma, compared top adults, so its possible that the child might recover if breathing did not stop entirely for 15 minutes. If breathing actually stopped for 15 minutes, any type of recovery is unlikely, but not impossible. Hope and pray for the best.

she could have had an allergic reaction or her little body just couldn't handle the sleeping pill. Only her little body will tell if she will be alright, but the longer that she is in a coma the more chances are of her coming out with brain damage. Good chances are since she is so young there will be an investigation.

The key is urgent medical treatment so if that was the case there is a good chance of survival but it depends on the reaction the pills had .

Stopped breathing for fifteen minutes? Brain is deprived of oxygen.

Why are you asking this here? The doctor at the hospital is the only one who can answer this question!

They really need to go to the hospital. Now.
I don't know what kind of sleeping pill it is, but I take one by prescription and can't even begin to imagine what it would do to a baby.
Good luck to that child and her family.
