One of best programs to convert avi files to dvd is the ConvertXtoDVD, VSO, this program has all you need to make a dvd disc to play in any home dvd player, with menu and all things. It's too easy, it's File/Open/Finish and it burns the compilation too.
I put 6 or 8 episodes of a tv series (i.e. SmallVille) and the results are very good.
