I was talking to my GF about reading the apocrypha and possibly the Koran and she told me not to because we're not supposed to look at or understand other religions, even Catholicism which I thought was a part of Christianity. I am a Methodist. I am not sure if the Bible forbids it but if so, where?

No, dear one, you are free to read whatever you like. In fact, it's good to compare other texts to God's Word. That way you can tell how far off the mark they fall.

God bless!

The Bible does not forbid the reading of the texts of other religions. By choosing to read them, we can better understand people of those faiths, and are better placed to discuss our own faith with them. (Roman) Catholics are Christians, although it is a continuing shame that not all those who claim to follow Christ recognise others who make the same claim.

No it does not forbid but it warns the people of God to be careful what we put before our eyes and take into our minds because some people can be drawn away by error and become confused. For me I find it interesting to learn what others believe and it makes me more grateful for my salvation. It enables me to see how much and where the devil is doing most of his work, in the name of religion.

Ezekiel 44:23  And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

I hope this helps.

No. If you read other religion's texts, and your faith is solid, they will not draw you away, instead, for me, at least, they show how right mine is.
