I just got back from Walmart. As I made my way through the parking lot I counted 17 people who walked right in front of my car without looking. I didn't count the people who did look... but walked in front of my car anyways.

And we say deer are stupid...

Of course they have the right of way, but it's still foolish to not pay attention. If the guy in the car doesn't see you, you're the one who is going to die, not him.

My husband and I were entering the parking lot of our local supermarket. An old woman walked out from between two cars right in front of us and made a few remarks about how stupid we were and her rights as a pedestrian. While I agree that a pedestrian certainly has the right of way on a road, it is just plain stupid to walk in front of a moving vehicle EXPECTING that the driver will see you and stop. People like this are not "oblivious." They are rude and ignorant. The terrible thing is that, no matter the circumstances, if someone walks in front of your car and gets hit with a 3 ton vehicle, it is YOU that are held responsible.

Yes. Absolutely. No doubt about it, sometimes I am. But the other posters are mostly right. Pedestrians have more rights than a driver; hence the 'driver's license'. (Can't you tell from the huge amount of money it takes to drive and maintain a car?? And that without adding gas prices.) And yes, I try to stay out of people's way when I'm walking in a parking lot, but only because that is the way I would like to be treated. And NO, I DON'T shop at walley world. Wal-Mart: BAD.

I have private joke with a friend about something like this.

I left Wal-Mart and a car had stopped in the parking lane by the door. I walked across and he proceeded to turn towards me. I kept repeating "I'm walking here".

So that phrase is now used a lot by us a a joke.

He was an old man,. needless to say. I work in a collision center and most of those customers are elderly. Old people should be tested frequently.

I understand you're frustration. I think that most humans are as stupid as deers anyways lol. They ASSUME that you will be driving well and paying attention, so they don't have to. And assumptions are bad as we all know. Once again humans are the most ignorant and stupid specie in the world, they have to learn from their mistakes. So until they get hit by the car THEN they will look, and that's if they survive.

How would you know? Anyone not wearing glasses doesn't have to turn their head and look at you. Ever heard of peripheral vision? Mine works great.

They're not oblivious. Pedestrians have the right of way in parking lots.

Well, okay, some are oblivious. I've seen it. But they still have the right-of-way.

And yes, it's foolish not to pay attention as a pedestrian in a parking lot. So what does that make them? And look where you were shopping; are you surprised?

I love the ones that take the longest possible angle across a narrow passage, while dragging their flip flops, picking their noses for you ( seemimgly as a personal favor to you, here want some).
Or even better, the ones that push their toddlers out ahead of them, as if to say " This'll makem' stop".
But best of all are those disgruntled ones, that run in packs of at least two, who walk down the middle of a though fair and allow you to wait for extreme amounts of time til they get to their vehicle, which has a flat tire and needs a jump but can't cause I took their spark plugs out while they were in Wal Mart.
They are not oblivious, they are inconsiderate.

It's especially stupid since the majority of people IN their cars are also ON their phones (and not paying attention). It's not a very good combination.

We have an epidemic around here of people running red lights. It happens a lot, and of course there is never a cop around. I don't know if it being oblivious or that arrogant attitude that "I'm so important I have to run this red light to get where I'm going."

That's why I always park further away from the door... I'd rather take a longer walk than get frustrated by peoples lack of attention.
