He could be placed in Juvenile until he turns 18, or he could be given probation.

you are not explainng everything........first of all, in most cases, theft is not a felony unless there are certain circumstances.........if he was a minor, and it was his first theft charge, it would not be a felony and at most he would get a few months probation......

second of all, if he was just present at the time when someone else just committed the crime, it shouldn't not have been a first degree theft.....it should have been a second degree theft for acomplicing.....and thats assuming he was part of it......if he wasn't then something isn't right here....

i personally do not believe you have enough information to be in a position to ask this question.......and also, no disrespect to you or this 15 year old boy....but how do you not know that he was with the wrong people at the wrong time?.....he could be a totally different person behind your back...and it is possible he could have purposely done something like this.........

if he is a well behaved kid like you say, maybe he isn't as much as you think....he may be a good kid....but i also know that good kids make good choices....and hanging with a bunch of kids that steal and burglarize is NOT a good choice.........if he didn't kno what kinda people they are at first, he should have walked away at the very moment he knew what they were planning......

That excuse will backfire. The judge will see that this youngster will do what bad kids tell him to do, and so he ought to be put away for his own protection. If he stands up and takes responsibility for his choice, he may only get probation.
