My son did the same thing from about 8 months to 11 months - now he is very calm- i had no problems with it but his father seems to be discouraged. I don't think its a bad thing unless shes screaming because shes mad. I think she should find her voice for herself - and she will probably grow out of it. I do not think you are wrong. If she is yelling about everything then teach her about inside voices and what not - but at this age its good to let her yell!!! (its not like shes 2 and doing the defiant scream) I think your doing fine! Stand your ground!
SHES STILL JUST A BABY at 8 months they really dont know wrong from right and trying to teach them can cause alot of problems.

The most important thing, after you have tried everything that would normally make a baby scream, such as changing diapers, checked the baby’s temperature, changed clothes to make the temperature of the room better, checked for diaper rash, fed the baby and gave the baby a drink, is to try to distract the baby. Even when your baby is screaming for a valid reason, such as pain or illness, you can almost always distract her for at least a short time.
The best methods of distraction are to take the baby outside, let the baby play with any animals you may have, find a colorful cartoon on TV or some relaxing semi-loud music on the radio, or something similar. Anything that is slightly out of the ordinary can act as an excellent distraction, as long as it can hold your baby’s interest for a few moments. Another way to help distract your baby from screaming, and to help you regain your strength to be able to deal with the screaming, is to act silly. As strange as it may sound, and as hard as it may be, acting silly to make a screaming baby stop crying and start laughing can work wonderfully

"Should she be learning to tone it down at this age? "
No! She's only 8 months old, and she's learning about how to use her voice. Vocalizations at this age are an important step in a baby's language development, and should not be inhibited.
When my daughter was this age, she would scream playfully every time we entered a bathroom. She seemed to like the acoustics. ;-)
If you're in a restaurant or someplace where her screeches will disturb others, try distracting her with an interesting toy or game, but don't worry about teaching her to use her 'indoor voice' until she's a bit older.

She is only 8 months old, still a baby and yes your right thats her way of playing and talking. So what if she screams, she might be a good singer some day. But seriously I wouldint worry about it so much, babies are suppose to be loud and joyful, thats how you know they are a happy baby.

right now it is really fun to watch. its not fun to hear when she is 2 years old.
when my son was small i used to wake up to him babbling and screenching early in the morning and i loved it. when he turned 2 years old and he was still screaming i really hated that.
u do need to start teaching her to quiet down. its going to take a long time for her to understand. it took my son a long time to learn not to scream since i tried stopping it at 2 years old.

Seems that you are the only one in the family who knows about babies. You are right , they are wrong. That's what they do when discovering new sounds. You're a good mom!

She's a baby...let her do her thing!! If she wants to scream then let her.don't let anyone (even your mom or husband) tell you what to do with YOUR child...if you as her mother don't have a problem with it then that's all that matters!!

no, you are not wrong at all. it just sounds like she should start to learn when this is okay and not. Honestly, I wouldnt worry about it yet, she is only eight months. It is too early for you to scold her for something like this because its normal.
