Yes. Supporting violence turns on itself. How do you know that you are not next? In Iraq, some people who were initially supporting violence tried to back out. Al-Qaeda killed them. Supporting violence only ensures that it will end up in your own back yard.

Supporting any violence is a bad idea.

Islamist violence will die out in time; as you imply, it is not productive, and does promote true religion. But it is going to take a couple of decades or more for everybody to figure that out.
I say Islamist rather than Islamic, because not all Muslims agree that the current Islamist movement is really Islamic. Just as most Christians, nowadays, do not believe in imposing their religion by force of law.
Until Islam has gone through this transition period, a lot of defensive violence is bound to occur also. And inevitably, mistakes will be made in applying it.
I'm pretty confident that in 20 years things will be better.

"Supporting" violence obviously makes no sense. But letting your distant neighbors duke it out is not "supporting" it. If anyone comes to our backyard then I "support" violence. But not senseles warmongering. Though I am NOT against the NUKE!!!
