I've noticed that my mom has been rubbing the top of her breast lately. When I saw her rub it she gave a strange look. She hasn't said anything about it. I know that if you have a lump on your breast you should see a doctor to see if it could be cancer. I don't know if my mom is feeling a lump or not, but she hasn't seen a doctor. I want to talk to her and find out what it is, and if it is a lump, convince her to go see the doctor, but I don't know what to say. And it would be awkward. But I know I should say something. How should I bring it up? What should I say?

BREAST CANCER is one of the most talked about subject today. So it may not be necessarily true your mom should have Breast cancer. She may be having some other discomfort or even a cyst. You have not told her the age of your mother etc. I feel your mother should be not less than 40 years, and it is high time she has mammogram to ensure she is not affected by cancer. You can straight away ask your mother, why he is rubbing her breasts without mentioning Cancer. Also suggest her to had mammogram. Even if it is needed you can mention about cancer also. I have written several blogs in Yahoo 360 about Breast cancer at link -

Please read them and understand it yourself and then convince your mother about the subject for getting mammogram. Best of luck-

I was in the same situation as you this time last year. My mum was always rubbing her breast and seemed to be acting a bit strange. After a few days of this, I sat down with mum and asked her what was wrong. Mum finally told me that she had just had found a lump, had a mammogram and just been told she needed to have a needle biopsy. Mum did not want to worry me because she was certain that it would all be okay.

It was such a huge weight off mum's shoulders to have told me and I was able to offer her support So, I think that you should sit down with your mum and have a chat to her.

If you want any more advice - or someone who has been in a similar situation to chat to - feel free to email me.

All the best, your mum is very luck to have such a caring daughter.

Nothing would be awkward in any situation related with health and mainly any suspicion about cancer should be checked as quickly as possible. Today every one woman among 9 is having a breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the most important issue in treating it. Probably your mother is much more aware than you are, so just tell her directly to go to a doctor for a check-up. It is very easy and cheap when you compare it with a life.

Tell your mother to get a mammogram and tell her to go to the doctor soon because if it really is, it has a less chance of spreading. My mother had breast cancer and she went as soon as possible when she found a lump. She is currently a 5 year survivor.

Just ask her why she has been rubbing her breast. Tell her you are worried about her and that you love her. Also suggest she have a mammogram if she hasn't before.

Maybe just say, "Mom, have you ever had a mamogram?", and then offer to go with her, explaining that you know how important it is to go.
