What is so wrong about being proud of something? If you've worked hard for something, why shouldn't you be proud of it?

Just as a matter of interest.

Because being proud places yourself above God. God wants to be the most important in your life.
Also, the Bible calls us to be humble, which is the opposite of pride. Humilty is to think lowly of oneself.
The proud man says, I'm awesome, I did a great job!!
The humble man doesn't take a compliment very well because he is giving his works and talents to God. He recognizes that all of his accomplishments are God's work through him, not by his own account.
pride comes before the fall. Pride was Lucifer onsetting sin that brought down his fall. He knew he was beautiful, he thought he deserved more praise than God.
And God sent his son Jesus to literally be the least. He was a servant. He washed the feet of his accusor. He forgave. He died for you and me and gave of himself in ways that we never could. Jesus was the least selfish person. He was the most humble person.
Which example should we follow? Be humble like Jesus or proud like Lucifer? Pride gives us the thinking that we deserve better than that. Humility gives us the impression that God deserves better than that and I'll give of myself and sacrifice myself and give the credit to God so that he may be glorified.
You decide.

It is not sinful say to be proud of your child getting good grades, etc.. what is sinful is pride that keeps you from apologizing or pride that stems from a haughty heart.

A proud person will argue until they get the last word, they won't admit they were wrong, they won't ask for help, they prefer to do something that is wrong instead of doing it somebody elses way.

I don't see what's so wrong with taking credit for something on your own, I mean while God may have helped you, it was essentially you that completed that by yourself. I believe in an independent God.

Maybe the reason why pride can be considered a sin because (sometimes) pride stems from arrogance which stems from a superiority complex which stemmed from an inferiority complex. Somtimes when you're prideful you're really hurting inside and you're just covering it up. That's just from my experience though.

If you'd known my mother, you wouldn't ask that question. If she rowed with her brother, whom she loved infinitely, she would never be the first to try to make it up. Her pride was just ridiculous and could have led to her never seeing him again.

I myself left home when things became impossible and would never have seen her again if I had not returned to see her.

Wars are caused through pride when one side or the other cannot look at the situation and see that they may be wrong, and back down.

That is why pride is a sin.

It was pride that got Lucifer kicked out of heaven. He was so beautiful that he got puffed up and wanted to be God himself. Pride is at the heart of a lot of sin, and some consider it to be the worst sin. It's pride that keeps us from admitting that we are sinners in need of a Savior.
If we remember that every good thing we have is a gift from God, that knowledge should keep us humble.

The seven deadly sins don't seem that bad. I bet that everyone has done every one of them at some point. Where are the major sins on that list like cruelty, murder and rape. They were probably thought up by some depraved idiot who thought it is wrong to lust.

Why is pride so sinful? Pride is giving yourself the credit for something that God has accomplished. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God alone and giving it to yourself. Pride is essentially self-worship. Anything we accomplish in this world would not have been possible were it not for God enabling and sustaining us. That is why we give God the glory...for He alone deserves it.

Pride is what made the devil think he could ascend to God's throne and is what made him fall (be cast out of heaven).........Pride says I achieved this by myself and don't need God. I"m not sure that a sense of accomplishment and the good feeling that goes with it is necessarily "true pride". I don't think we understand the biblical definitions of words. :)

Its just about being humble. Not boasting or trying to say to people that you are good at this or that etc.

I think it is okay to be proud of yourself for something you have done etc. That is bit different.

I think it goes back to 'hubris' an ancient Greek concept of thinking that you maybe higher than the gods. It's maybe a superstitious reaction to not praising the god's enough and so calling down their anger.
