Part of the answer is genetics I'm sorry to say, but you can still help nature along. However you can't have a flat stomach if the rest of you is overweight...but look on the bright side, most people secretly think a bit of a tummy is really quite sexy! Ok, I hear you! Whatever exercise you do, large exercise ball crunches, floor crunches, seated leg lifts, hanging leg raises, floor bicycle pedaling, you need to do them at least three times a week and vary them so you are only doing each one, once a week. It won't happen overnight and in fact it will take about 3 months to show real improvement. When you stop getting sore, it's time to do two different exercises each session...that's 4 sets of about 12 reps of two different exercises. Don't forget to stand tall and be confident - it's your best weapon!

Do Stomach crunches, Lay flat on your back, hands behind ur head as if doing a sit up, but only raise upless than a foot, you will feel the pull on your Stomach muscles. Do a set of 10 at the begining each day for a week and add 5 or 10 extra crunches per week as you go along. :) Avoid Fast Food Restaurants!

Having well toned muscles in ones abdomen is a good thing. But don't get too caught up in it. Adequate exercise will strengthen those muscles and help pull in a sagging stomach. But too much exercise can make those muscles too large and actually increase the size of ones stomach. Genetics plays an important role as to how flat your stomach is capable of getting.

Women who have given birth may not be able to do this if the muscles have been overly stretched. Abdominal muscles are like rubber bands. Over stretch them and they loose some of their elasticity and cannot return to their original condition.

That is why you see many a Hollywood mother having surgery to tighten those muscles by shortening them.
