Well me and someone who sits beside in school were talking.. because sometimes before class we get to talk. And while we were talking he was reading some snake book that had evolution in it. So randomly.. he goes "look at all the species that were left behind because of evolution!!" and i am like... "im Christian.. and i don't believe in evolution."

then he says..."i am a Christian too.. but i believe in evolution.. i mean.. its in the Bible"

THAT TOTALLY THREW ME!!
Until he explained.. and that made me remember..

in the Bible.. satan [[when trying to fool Eve]] was a lizard.. and his punichment was that he had his arms and legs taken off.

so does that mean evolution exists???

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

Concerning the debate going on about intelligent design and evolution: is it possible that the final answer about which of these two seemingly opposite ideas is correct could simply be yes?

With one position firmly held by the believers and the other just as fearlessly defended by the non-believers, if you happen to be in a position somewhere near the middle, it does not look all that complex. From this position, you wonder why either-or has to be the answer.

If you believe that some higher being created the universe by intelligent design, what more elegant and intelligent design could there have been than a self-regulating system that continually checks its own errors and makes its own corrections in mid-stream as an integral part of the process.

This all seems quite logical to me although it probably won’t satisfy the believers because they are afraid to see any truth other than the one they have been told to believe in. Inversely it certainly won’t satisfy the non-believers because it leaves them stuck with a god that they are so obviously terrified of.

To sum up this view from the center, it might be most easily be explained by saying perhaps the designer was intelligent. Problem is, the designer was likely so intelligent that those seeking to prove that it is intelligently designed may be incapable of ever understand it well enough to see it for the elegant self regulating design that it has always been.

The nonbelievers will be similarly handicapped due to the internal terror the have about the idea that there may be a God. Neither side being able to leave their entrenched position for fear they may have to admit they were wrong. While the rest of us stand by trying to figure out what all the fuss is about. Personally I don’t think anyone is wrong, I just feel both sides are about half right.

If you break Christianity down into denominations and look at it that way, most Christians world wide (Catholics, mainline Protestants, not sure about the Orthodox) have long since accepted that humans evolved. It's only fundamentalists (and a few others, maybe) who still have a problem with it. But, remember, Christianity had trouble with the earth revolving around the sun, too, when that was still a novel idea.

What can be learned from this? A few things: religious organizations are conservative in that they are slow and resistant to change. However, change CAN happen; it just takes generations or centuries.

To get back to your question: yes, evolution happened and continues to happen. That doesn't have to be a threat to your religious faith, though, as long as you don't insist on being a Biblical literalist.

Investigate the subject. If you take a careful look at the evidence, you will find that evolution is the best explanation for life on Earth and says nothing to disprove God. It does show that hyperliteral reading of the Bible should not be a substitute for reality.

Using the Bible to "prove" evolution is just as bad as the creationists trying to prove their claim with the Bible. Evolution doesn't need any supernatural aid like the Bible for it to be believed, it already has evidence. You know, like the fossil record, the genetic evidence, the observed speciations, the vestigial organs, the suboptimal design, homology, convergent evolution and all the rest of that stuff.

Come up with a new copy n paste, jeez. I've read that dribble several times already. Atheists are so obviously afraid of God? I'm not afraid of the Boogie Man and I don't see why I should be afraid of an other imaginary being.

It is helpful to remember that the bible was written thousands of years ago and that evolution as an idea had not came about until around the 1800's. Furthermore, proof of evolution is present today. For instance, there are certain strains of bacteria that we used to be able to kill with antibiotics, but now they have evolved an immunity of sorts to the most commonly used antibiotics.

hey i'm Christian ,too. In Genesis 1, it gives the Creation story. If ur Christian, thoughts of others shouldn't come in the way of what the Bible says is true. Snakes having no legs is a curse that God put on them bcuz of Satan's wickedness and deceitfulness.

The Bible is a work of fiction so it really has nothing to do with science. Of course, we've known for well over 150 years that evolution explains the origin of living organisms.

Technically hon, that's not evolution.

My opinion is that the Bible does not mention evolution because it is unimportant to the human spirit, of which the Bible is the chronolog. I don't see any need to make it an either/or thing, because I can see how they both happened.

You're having a laugh, right?

No, that nonsense you refer to doesn't mean evolution exists but there is a huge amount of evidence that demonstrates that we evolved. Here's a link:

Evolution is the physical history from past to present of all living things that ever lived that God created.
