I woke up this morning with my cat beside me when I turn to tell him good morning I notice he has a glue like substance on one eye. That eye will not open. Is this anything I should be worried about? What is it? Can my family catch it? What can I do to help him?

i work for a vet and i highly recommend that you bring him to a dr. you may have to put medications in his eye for at least 10 days. either way i'm sure that he is uncomfortable and should be taken care immediately.

I'm a foster mom and we deal with kittens and cats alot. Your cat could have a cold in his eye or he could be developing an upper respiratory infection. Either way, you'll need to take him to a vet and get medication.

Your family cannot catch it, but other cats you may have will.

If you cant get him into a vet soon, soak part of a wash cloth in warm water and gently rub it over his eye. It should start breaking up the 'glue like substance' which in turn will help him open his eye.

Soak it with a warm washcloth until it can open. Then you are probably going to have to schedula a vet visit to get meds. It will make the cat feel better. No, the family cannot catch it, just other cats.
