I have a large breed short hair 7month old puppy. I take him to Petsmart to be groomed and I have started asking for a certain groomer and I have always been unsure if I tip the groomers. Now I feel that I should tip since I ask for this one guy because he knows my dog and my dog likes him. So I was wondering if I should tip him and how much. It typically cost $22 to get him groomed (bath and brush).

Yes...tip. A groomer will always be very complimented if you do. Tipping means you appreciate the work they have done. You can tip whatever you want. I have received tips up to $10! Not that you should tip that much...but anything from $3 - $5 would be sufficient with a dog that costs $22 to groom.

Addition: Most groomers work on commission. Shops usually give the groomer from $40-50% ccommission. The shop is usually making the most money...not the groomer. So, giving a tip is just a little extra to let the groomer know she is doing a good job and that you like what she does.

Do You Tip Dog Groomers

If you go to Petsmart and your dog doesn't get a haircut, just a bath and brush (and nails, teeth, anal glands, etc.), you're getting a bather, not a groomer, and bathers do all the same things except the shaving/cutting. Groomers make commission,
and get more tips, but bathers usually don't, in fact sometimes they even make minimum wage(Though usually a bit more). Most people never think to tip if there's no haircut involved. what people don't realize is how difficult it can be to get a dog to cooperate with being dried and getting nails clipped or ground. Most dogs turn into little devils at these steps, thrashing and kicking and sometimes biting. Tipping is a great thing to do because it shows you appreciate the effort and are satisfied with the outcome. Plus, if a groomer or bather gets enough tips, they can afford to buy more of their own, better equipment, like nice nail clippers that are more comfortable for dogs, which works out better for your dog in the long run.

I have to admit I am hesitant to tip. While groomers do a good job normally, the local groomer here charges fees (over $50/dog) higher than is average in this area ($45/dog), and this same groomer asks for a tip on top of that. I don't purchase any "spa" treatments or anything, just a shampoo and clipping. That's all I need. What's more, another groomer here in the area runs her operation out of a vet clinic, and we've discovered that in order to continue grooming dogs there that clinic demands you pay for a checkup from them once per year, which runs hundreds of dollars. It just seems like the non-corporate groomers in this area are out to gig everyone out of every dollar they can and it's insulting.

Do you tip your hair dresser? What about when you get your nails done or go out to eat? They provided you with a service, so yes. You should tip. Groomers usually work on at most 40% commission unless it is their own salon and in that case, they have to pay overhead and salaries. If you are happy with the service provided, TIP. In your case, a $3-5 tip would be appropriate.

If you want to make sure that you get the same groomer,
be sure to tip him about $5.00, if the store allows it!
If there are not any "no tipping" signs around, go ahead
and tip him. If there are, complement the groomer, and give raves to his boss, and let it be known that you prefer this
groomer over all the others. You don't want to get him fired,
but I agree, groomers should be given a gratuity when taking
extra care of your pet! (And he is if your dog likes him!)

Your groomer does much more than your hair dresser! Do you tip them? Groomers do the head, the face, the body, the tail and all four legs. ( that is equal to about 4 heads of hair) AND they bath the dog, do nails, bows or bandannas. Sometimes all this with a hard to do do. Not because the dog is bad but it's fat, or wants to sit all the time or has mats and is snappy or just really happy and wiggles ALOT!!!
PLEASE TIP YOUR GROOMER WELL!!!!!

We have 3 dogs and take them to Pet Smart also. We don't always get the same groomer, but they usually do a very good job with or dogs, and we usually tip them five dollars for each dog. Because we are very satisfied with the way they treat our dogs and how good the dogs look and like them.

I tip the groomer five bucks each time I take my dog in for grooming and I believe that it's enough.

I have a groomer who does an amazing job with my dog. My dog loves her and she gives him the full treatment. This is at a Petsmart. I always tip her generally 10.00. I always book with her. I appreciate the extra care and attention my dog gets. That piece of mind is hard to come by and I show my appreciation.
