Unless you have an adult with you, you need to be at least eighteen years of age in most places to purchase a puppy.
Good luck!

A puppy or dog will cost you several thousand dollars EACH year in vet care and food - so this is the question you should be asking rather than if you are old enough agewise. The questions you need to ask yourself is, Do I have $4,000 EVERY year to set aside just to care for the animal?
Also, you truly need to ask yourself if you have enough time to make the commitment. A puppy needs walked every day and exercised,a nd to have lots of human companionship - not to be alone all day waiting for its family to come home.

does your mother and father want you to have a puppy? if so, you can be 5 months old; but they would have to go with you to buy the puppy. no reputable dealer or puppy owner will sell a puppy to a child without knowing the child could take care of it, feed it, pay for its shots, vet bills, have it spayed or neutered, etc.

Legally, 18.
Morally, mature enough to be able to care for/train/maintain the health of the dog and do the proper amount of research!
Check out www.petfinder.com for dog's that are available for adoption. Puppy stores sell puppy mill dogs. And a puppy mill is not a pretty place.

If it says free puppies, ovbiously you should have a parent with you, and if you adopt/buy from a breeder you must be either 16 or 18.

Most of these answers are crap. If a parent is present, obviously it can be bought at any age, but by 12 you can legally go into a petshop and buy a pet, but obviously when buying from an owner, the owner might be reluctant to sell to a minor.

I'm 18, and our puppy was adopted from Battersea Dogs Home - I couldn't have been any longer, so I'd imagine that all responsible breeders etc would ask that you were legally an adult too. :)

legally 18 years old however if you are living with your parents or renting it would go by the rules.
Just because you are 18 would not give you the right to try to overrule your parents in a subject of any matter if you are living with them.
