Have you given it a fair shot? One semester is relatively short compared to the time in the military. If you find tuition too steep, you can get some educational benefits from military service. You may need the time to become more mature and chose a course in life that interests you more than what you have just started.
The Air Force and Navy are cutting back. Doesn't mean they will stop taking enlistees but the training courses will be more selective. Rank was harder to come by in the AF. Rank means money in your pocket. However, the AF always had nicer facilities (years ago when I was in the military).
Do you have any kind of training in mind? Electronics is available in both services but each has its own specialties. Look them over before you talk to a recruiter so you have an idea of what you want and can ask for some assurances before enlisting. I did and ended up in language school for 9 months before being sent oversea. It was hard but some of the best years of my life.

If you are at a university, then drop out and try a less vigorous community college, but don't give up on college altogether. I was in the Navy and I know the Navy is trying to recruit more people with college education but they will take those without a college education. I also know that many people in the military get out or retire and realize that civilian sector is hard, they are behind their counter parts in the civilian sector and they may need a degree to advance or get a job.

Tell them you tried college and it isn't for you. You feel you'd get more out of the military. Point out the military gives you training, which may translate into a civilian career.
My cousin learned auto mechanics in vo tech school, became a mechanic for a firm that leased towmotors. Good pay, but no future.
He joined the Air Force, became a radar maintenance technician . After discharge, applied for and got a job as a computer technicial with IBM.He never spent a minute in a college classroom.

How you tell your parents is up to you but if you're considering manning up and joining the military, why not show them the kind of man you're hoping to become by standing tall and telling them straight. Face up to whatever disappointment or concern or whatever they might have.
As far as which branch of the service you should enter, I'd recommend this: Seriously think about what kind of career you'd like to have when you get out of the service. Then pick the branch that is most likely to get you to where you want to be four years from now.
Best of luck to you.

Depends on who is paying the tuition. I would suggest that you stay in school, unless you plan on continuing your education while you are in the military. I am sick of seeing young people fresh out of the military working at fast-food joints because they have no education or training that can be used in the civilian world.
