I worked out really long and hard two days ago... It left me extremely sore and tonight when I went to work out, I had to take it easier on myself...

I felt frustrated, because I didn't get to push myself as hard...

Silly but it discourages me when I don't give it my all..

How can I make my routines more productive?

I have the same problem as you!

I have days where I push myself to near exhaustion, spend a day or two to recover, then do a day of light workouts. There are days when I push myself, and I feel like it's a great workout, then there are days where I push myself only to feel like I didn't do any good. Same goes with the light days. But really, no matter how much you push yourself, if you're working out, you're working out. You may not burn as many calories from one day to the next, but at least you're doing something. A little bit of a workout is way better than no workout at all.

If you want more productive workouts, don't push yourself to the extreme everyday. Do cardio everyday, then pick alternate days for weight training or anything else your gym offers. Vary your workout every few weeks to keep it fresh and new.

Check out www.self.com for more workout tips. I use them all the time, their workouts are realistic and easy.

Your fine! I try to have 3 hard workouts a week and the others I workout for a good hour but I don't push myself super hard. If I have a day where I'm sore, I will take one day off, no more and then take it easy if I'm still sore after than, but sometimes, you have to still push yourself after 2 days again and you will be sore, but this is part of building muscle. People are afraid of being sore or think this is a bad thing. it's not! Make sure you stretch well after working out, drink plenty of water and eat well and this won't be the case as you get stronger. Don't be afraid to push yourself, if you've taken a day or two off or had easier workouts for a couple of days, you need to push yourself again.

If lifting weights, there are things you can take to help you recover, eat protein or drink a protein shake right after your workout, this really helps soreness, but I'm still sore after each time I lift weights for that day and I've been lifting for 10 months! I'm seeing lots of changes though and it's worth it.

I will run, cycle, or do stairs 3 days a week and then do weights 3 days a week, to help give other muscles a chance to recover.
