I thought it was just me till I heard someone else did it too, and when I asked another cat owner she said 'all the best cat moms do!' LOL

Just wondering HOW common this is? I've got a special blue jar that they go in, though some of the 6" whiskers are almost too long to fit in it.

Do you do anything with them? Is it just something you save?

Well, I guess except for Dog Whisperer it's actually not unusual. I'm finding shed whiskers at about one a week (we have several cats) and it's just an idle gathering-up I do.

There IS a use for cat whiskers I've found. Someone who was painting miniature models asked for a few if I had them, he needed something stiff, with a small end, to do the painting for the whites of the eyes on the figures plus the black pupil. The tiniest brushes didn't work, a toothpick didn't work, but the blunt end of a cat whisker was perfect for that tiny bit of paint that could be put exactly where it was needed.

I actually have a couple from my cat that died. They are in an envelope in his "memory book" along with photos of him.

Yes, I recently noticed that my pure black manx lost a few whiskers over the last week and I have saved them in a little treasure box. They might have some kind of magical power, like a feather from a phoenix.

I sometimes do. I've had cats for about 6 years, they've lost a lot of whiskers. I made a toothpick model of a cat, I used the whiskers, too.

I've rarely found shed whiskers but when I have I have saved them. We used to have a small collection of them sitting on my mum's dresser. I don't think we ever did anything with them, just saved them.

My beautiful Blackie (15) passed away a year ago last Easter. Before we buried her I removed three of her whiskers and I have them in a treasure box and will keep them always. Yes, just to save.

I think they will be a nice memento of your beloved pet after they pass. By using their collar, photos, favorite toys...the wiskers (you could tie a ribbon around them) and other things to make a framed memory box...I would also get the kitties paw prints using a non toxic paint or ink to use as well...

I used to collect them just for fun when I found them on my clothes. After my cat died, they became very important to me. I think it is a cool hobby!!!
