You have a panic attack disorder first of all. You seemed to recognize the symptoms, what ever they were on the way to the hospital, but you also had symptoms that you mentioned "the next day at school I felt like I couldn't breathe..." That's also a panic attack.
As for the choking on a cheeseburger and coughing, it could be a number of things. Many times someone "swallows wrong" and it causes choking because it's not going where it's supposed to go. The choking and coughing is your body's reaction as it recognizes that you're swallowing something that's headed to your lungs instead of your stomach so you cough to bring it back up. The reason you started choking is something that no one on here could diagnose for you. A doctor would have to after giving you a check up and asking many questions. It could be an allergy to something in the food, or it could be simply that you accidently swallowed the wrong way. Who knows why that happens, but most people do have a few episodes where they "swallow the wrong way" and cough the food or drink back up.
You need a physical by a doctor to make sure nothing is wrong.
Best of luck to you!! :)

you probably had an anxiety attack don't worry...it's nothing.
avoid all caffeine, esp. in soft drinks, such as colas, Dr Pepper, Lucozade etc.., & have only decaf coffee & tea.
My anxiety attacks started when I was a litle older than you & someone told me about this & I laughed about it but now after suffering for 15 years I see that were right & since I cut out caffeine my anxiety attacks have gone down by 90%...

Also, about your throat, did the Dr have a look at it? if there's nothing physically wrong with it, then wear a sky blue or turquise or any blue scarf around it, as there's an energy point (called Chakra) on the throat area which has the energy vibrancy to the colour blue.

What did they say at the hospital? As a mom, no one special, not an expert, I would say this:

1. Find out what's triggering the anxiety attacks and put a stop to it.
2. Make sure it isn't asthma. That would be my guess.

Take care, son.
My son (17) is having asthma attacks now, too. He's in the marching band and they have to practice on the field (grass).

It sucks but it sounds like you're having anxiety. I used to have a "swallowing issue" as well which I randomly got over.

It's not uncommon for anxiety to come about in the teen years.

Try starting a journal and writing about your fears, stresses, and anything else. It may help to calm your nerves and figure out what it is you're really anxious about.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

yea, any tightness in your throat normally means an anxiety attack. Sometimes it's hard to tell where they come from
