So for a while now i have been thinking off cutting meat out of my diet. Recently in one of my classes we saw videos of slaughter houses, and that just pushed me to stop eating meat. I haven't eaten meat in a week, which is a short time i know, but i really want to stick to this. i don't think i am going to be a vegeterian, i don't eat eggs, i eat egg whites, i don't eat fish, but i do love shrimp. i still eat milk. i'd like to be a vegeterian someday, i just feel bad because i'm still eat dairy and want to eat shrimp. i do feel better not eating meat, but i don't really know what to eat. i want some tips, or guidance on what to eat. i have craved meat, but then i think of the video, ahh what can i do to eliminate mean from my diet?

First, dont feel bad! You have done a good thing and you are on your way! Shrimp and milk. Is that the only problem? There are many Veggies who still eat dairy and seafood. Or poultry and dairy. Etc. I agree with your choice. For instance, I eat dairy, seafood, and poultry. I will cut out poultry soon! it takes time, for some it is ovenight, some it comes over time!

Well, if you are really craving meat, you can consider eating non-meat replacement products (e.g. veggie dogs, veggie burgers, etc.) Some of them are actually quite tasty and resemble meat. They even have meatless sloppy joes, believe it or not.

Other than that, you can eat vegetables, carbs (just make sure you try to eat whole grain or you will probably gain a lot of weight). Some vegetarians make the decision to include fish/shrimp and dairy products into their diets, but it really depends on your own preferences and how strongly you feel about not eating meat or byproducts.

You also may want to consider tofu. It's usually a love it or hate it type of thing though.

Look online for vegetarian recipes, and you will be sure to find something that you like!

You can still have some of those things in moderation and as long as you have a balanced diet it is fine not all animals are treated badly but sadly quite a few are you would be a vegan almost if you didn't eat these things. You can eat things like beans, and nuts and fruits and vegetables and foods with no meat in them that you like. If you keep thinking about the video though it can become even more tramautizing for you and you might become sick and not want to eat anything at all so take it slowly and don't change you diet all of a sudden. There is soy and if you don't want any dairy products try tofutti for ice cream or if you want to become one slowly you could try yogurt and then tofu. There are veggie burgers and veggie dogs but the veggie burgers are better as well.

Now that's a freudian slip if ever I saw one... yep, meat certainly is 'mean'!

Don't beat yourself up over eating shrimp and milk. You've given up the other meats so that's a huge step to take... well done! If you can gradually phase them out too, even if it's in 10 years then that's even better but the main thing is you're making a huge effort already. My advice would be to go on loads of veg websites and do your research into recipes and healthy eating.

The welcome pack I got when I became a supporter of Viva! really helped put things in perspective and I don't know how anyone could consider eating meat after reading and watching all the information they sent me. There are so many meat substitutes nowadays that it's not hard giving up the real thing. My favourites are Redwood's and Realeat. I've heard that you stop craving any food after 3 weeks so hang in there for another 2 and it should get a lot easier. I used to love meat but now just the thought makes me sick. Good luck with everything!

there are so many alternatives to meat it great, I am a vegetarian too, as of I think 3 weeks ago, I do eat a french dip rarely, and I am now cutting out milk and other dairy products, but you don't have to stop drinking milk, just animal milk, there is several vegetarian companies that make soy or other kinds of milk, faux meat, like chicken patties and cheeseburgers, so you don't have to feel bad about not being able to eat "Meat" but not bad about eating it. They are really good. I have been wanting to stop eating meat for a very ling time, having 2 influential family members being vegetarians, but was forces by my parents to eat it, I finally put my foot down after reading about slaughterhouses (I couldn't bring myself to watch the movie with the e-mail). But anyway, there are many things you could use to substitute meat, I haven't looked into shrimp, but I'm sure if you do there is something

Good for you in trying to cut meat out of your diet. Don't feel bad, any reduction in your animal consumption is a positive step so don't feel it's terrible if you eat a bit of shrimp occasionally.

If you want meat type products, there are some great meat alternatives out there and contrary to what a lot of meat eaters will assume without ever having tasted them, they do taste good.

When I first went veggie it was because I saw some terrible cruelty which had been happenning in the meat supply chain. I resolved that I was not going to contribute to the suffering myself and I feel better about that.

Take it one step at a time. Cut out the meat and fish (except shrimp if need be) and just get used to that. You may find that in a few years time you feel you would like to be stricter. But ultimately, feel proud, you will not be contributing to animals' suffering.

I second the guy who says ingesting meat can make you sick. Radical variations to nutrition plan (even very temporary ones) can impact your well being. ingesting meat after a lengthy time period of no meat ought to maximum in all probability reason a foul reaction. So, is she pressuring you to eat meat? In this style of case, a severe verbal replace about respecting one yet another's values is so as. If she isn't, why experience compelled? A meat eater and a vegetarian (?) can co-exist with somewhat undemanding appreciate. You and your girlfriend do no longer ought to agree on each and everything, you may have your own values and see you later as you could appreciate one yet another.

Don't feel bad. You've cut out everything but shrimp, cows' milk, and eggs. It's a good start. Go at the pace which feels right for you, gradually reducing animal products until you have reached your comfort level.

There are tons of analogues out there, and you're sure to find ones that please you. Sadly, finding faux shrimp is pretty hard, although your local Asian grocery store just might have the analogues. If you can get soy milk and soy ice cream, it will help you reduce your dairy consumption.

And check out www.vegweb.com for recipes and resources.

You will crave meat, because psychologically speaking it is what your body is use to. Now your mind is in control, and you have convictions of not eating meat. So you will have to go through a period of retraining your body not to eat meat. Maybe you can help it along by trying the meat substitutes found at most supermarkets. And keep trying to find meat substitutes because some are so close to the real thing (so your mouth can enjoy the taste it remembers, but your mind will not feel guilty because no animal had to be killed for your taste buds).

Just comepletely forget about meat! It was really easy for me to just drop it. Eat foods like homemade pizza(with soy cheese) and pasta, because that's just regular everyday food. And also if you're a vegetarian why not be a healthy one right? So try eating more fruits, vegetables, and grains and you should be feeling way better in no time!
