I have a 2006 BMW 325i that has a serious tire issue. The front tires are worn out in an uneven pattern after only 12,000 miles. I am searching for more people with this problem as I have found out that this particular car has this problem with tires and BMW is only willing to give half off for new tires. This is not fair due to the time and stress this problem is causing due to noise & safety. I am also not sure if once you replace the tires that the problem will not reoccur. These tires are the Bridgestone Turanza . Please let me know if anyone has similar issues with BMW tires.

Due to how badly these tires are worn they must have shown signs of wear prior to 12,000. Too bad for me I was inspecting my tire wear or I would have gotten FREE tires. While this is not a sports car & I take car of the car who would have thought tires need to be replaced in 10/12k miles. I have had several other issues with this 2006 BMW & who pays for the my time & the expensive alignment on premature problematic tires? I have found several people with the same tire/noise issue. All I asked for was 2 front tires the rear tires are fine.

BMW TECH & JAY:
I feel you are wrong about your answer. THINK about it, Who accounts for having prematurely worn out tires. The time , expense & inconvenience is a nuisance. I most pay for alignment prematurely as well. Where was my bulletin on the faulty tires to let me know this was an issue so that I could have found the tire wear problem earlier. I am a single parent & these unexpected expenses break my budget. I was not looking at my tires because after over 20 years of owning a car I NEVER had tires that needed to be replaced sooner than 36 thousand miles. It is SAD that this situation happened among other things BRAMAN BMW dealership has done to cause me problems on a 2006 car. I would happily accept used tires with normal wear & tire for a car with only 12,000 miles.

if the tires uniformly worn you could assume the tread wear rating is pretty low and the tires just tend to wear out quickly.(for performances sake). Tirerack lists 6 different Turanza tires (size 205/55-16-are these the size on your car ?)all of which have a treadware rating of 300 which i would estimate having to be good for 20-25k miles.
If the tires wear unevenly i would think there is an underlying mechanical problem. I bet if you replace the tires and a mechanical problem exists the new tires regardless of what type they are will wear unevenly too. I would watch the tread wear closely as the new tires wear.
Keep it aligned, keep your recepts and ask BMW (after the new tires start to wear unevenly too) How could 2 sets of tires both wear unevenly with good alignment and no mechanical problems-like a bad strut ? Makes you wonder why the rear tires aren't screwed up too-I would guess they were from the same batch of tires as both of the fronts. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Make sure the wear is not due to an alignment problem. If it is, BMW will not take responsibility.
If the alignment is up to spec, then you have a valid point. You need to speak to the saleman who sold you your car. Tell him that you are upset that the tires went bad so soon and ask him to speak to the service writer to see if he can get them replaced under warranty.
If you are asked to pay 1/2 from BMW, watch out! The dealership is not a good place to get tires. Check www.tirerack.com to get an idea what the cost of the tires should be. Add the cost of installation also. You can also call a reputable tire shop and ask them what the cost would be. Many local tire shops will include flat repairs at no additional charge for the life of the tires.
Good luck.

IT takes specail equipment to handle the ALIGNEMTn on a BMW or any other EURO CAR! If you had alignemtn done at a FIRESTONE or GOOD YEAR STORE< you wll SUFFER wih tire wear! The GEOMETRY of the BMW suspension is beyond the cpacity of most machines to deliver proper ALINMENTS! hsi ALONE will cause TIRE WEAR! The BRIDGESTONE tires are MARVY for most cars. BMW and other EURO CARS ause NEAGATVIE ROLL RADIUS STEERING somehting that a place that services FORDS and CHEVIES does now fully understand! BMW should be HAPPY to check your alignemtn for you, or contact the BMW help line and ASK QUESIONS! BRIDGESTONE is a very reliable tire, and I have had GREAT oluck with them, but there are CHEAP BRIDGESTONES and SUPERIOR ones as well! I WOULD TEND TO THING that the ALIMENT was done improperly on the WRONG type of equipment! hsi haapened to my 1988 300E BENZS qas well! The ALIGNEMN RACK was not capable of aligning the front end properly! THEY HAD NO CONCEPT! As a result, my BENZ tends to drift into curbs, until I got it reparied properly at the BENZ DEALERSHIP! they sue specail TOOLS for thier alilgnemtns that REGULAR TIRES sores doNOT usualy carry! IT is NOT YOU at all, and maybe not even BRIDGESONE< but where you had your alignemtn done! OPEN YOUR HOOD and see how the front SHOCKS are ANLED severely! This affects CAMBER and other features BMW engineered INTO your car! ANY TIRE wil wear badly on a BMW tha has NOT been aligneed with the right TOOLSET! GOOD LUCK!!

Bridgestone Turanza tires are known for low life. Check tirerack.com.
I'd be happy that BMW is paying for part of your tires. I wouldn't expect them to cover tires at all. The most ive heard people get out of those tires is about 26,000 miles, and that's with threads showing.
There's no need for them to issue you a bulletin telling you the tires are faulty, because they're not. They got you 12,000 miles without popping or blowing out - seems like they worked fine. Just get some harder compound tires that last longer, if that's what you're looking for. The tires i buy for my car are designed to last only 10k miles for performance sake.

I have 2006 BMW 323i and have the same problem. About 3 weeks ago, started getting grinding noise. I thought it was the bearing, Got it checked up and they said it was the front tires worn at the side or as they call it ..Feathering of the tires. However I have 39000 kms..live in Toronto Canada. BMW said they would pay half if it was less than 32000 kms. Total cost was Cdn $ 1300 I didnèt get it done. They said they would rotate the tire ...i.e front ones to rear and vice versa...but they could not guarantee that the noise would go away. So far have not done anything. Have you done anything yet

i brought my 2006 bmw 325i to boston herb chambers 3 times last year for "noisy tires" and each time they told me i had uneven wear likely from pot holes/alignment issues. i didn't buy their explanation at the time because A) i don't hit potholds and B) i get my tires aligned routinely so i just waited until the noise got unbearable recently and i took it to another bmw dealership in peabody and it wasn't until this recent visit that i was told of the problems other customers have been having with the bridgestone tires that came with my car not entirely related to alightment issues (ie: the tires are faulty) and that bmw was willing to help pay for tires if i had less than 20k miles on my car...well too bad i wasn't told the truth about these tires until now that i have 36k miles on my car. i think the bmw dealership in boston was deceitful and not forthcoming with the truth about these tires. i'm surprised there isn't a class action law suit against bmw/bridgestone for the multiple customers who were put out due to this common tire issue. i just can't believe the boston bmw dealership was trying to tell me the noise/uneven wear on my tires was entirely my own fault and never mentioned once about helping me pay for new tires because these bridgestone tires inherently are not good.

The x5 is, I presume, 4x4. Your problems are possibly caused by mismatched tire size. Many 4x4 and AWD vehicles suffer premature wear when people change tire sizes for whatever reason. The tires and wheels you took off are the factory recommended original size, and the system was designed to work with them. It may create a problem if one set of wheels is turning at a slightly different ratio to the other set than factory design. Check with a BMW service centre to see if the differential with the tires you put on is causing the problem. That shouldn't cost you anything, and they should be able to give an answer without seeing the vehicle.

Have you thought that maybe it's your fault? Aggressive driving (too fast, cornering or braking too hard, etc.) is the leading cause of premature tire wear. Bridgestone had to pass a BMW treadwear test to be approved as a tire supplier. I'm guessing the problem is you. Be thankful for the 50% comp - you shouldn't be getting anything.

bmw will cover 100% up to 10k miles and 50% 10k-20k miles.
if you have complained about this before at the dealer and they have your repair order with the complaint with 10k or less you would be covered 100%. but at 12k your are only covered at 50%.
they have a new improved tires. or you can request a different brand like continetal run flats. i think are better than the bridgestones. it's not the car, it's the tires causing this.
i'm just a tech. i don't make the rules and don't always agree with them. try requesting to speak with the FSE at your local dealer. he is the one that can approve 100% new tires. he is the field service engineer and comes around once a month or so.

This is why I am against Run Flat tires. Too bad BMW does not provide a spare tire, you would think with all the money you pay for it you should get an extra tire. Infiniti G35 is a real car!
