She had pneumonia before whooping cough, that's how she got whooping cough. And she has Asthma, my whole family has it.

Her body is just NOT healthy enough to fight off the infection she obviously still has. She need to eat a lot more fruits and veggies, raw if possible, NO DAIRY-which causes mucus.

If you can rig up a board from the edge of her bed to the floor and have her lie on it for 20 to 30 minutes it could help her move some of the mucus into a position so she can cough it up. Have her lay on her stomach on the board with her head pointed down and you even pat her back, hard enough to move the mucus but not hard enough to hurt her.
This could be done twice a day.

For sleep, pull her mattress up and put something under the top so that her mattress in raised at the head area. Cinder blocks, lots of pillows. Anything that will raise the head of her bed so she sleeps upright. This can be a problem if she normally sleeps anyway other than on her back. It will be more comfortable if you place an old pillow that is somewhat squashed so that it is under her back not cross ways and a pillow under her knees is very comfortable; then have her place a pillow on each side, so she will have trouble during the night turning sideways without waking up. If she turns over or turns on her side, she could cause some stress on her knees because of the position of the mattress.

Hope that helps.

I would tell your mother to see a Pulmonologist, or just her primary doctor. A lot of people have bad allergies, and it makes them cough a lot. Also, drinking some tea before going to bed might be of some help. Try not to worry, but I think seeing a doctor would be a good thing.

Has she been checked for chronic pneumonia? Or maybe she developed Asthma or Emphysema from the cough? Don't get worried because those conditions are highly treatable if she has them, if not have her check back in with a doctor, or try to get her checked for these problems if she hasn't been. :-) Good luck to ya.
