You could very well be lactose intolerant. Humans aren't meant to consume cows' milk, and cheese concentrates all the harmful compounds that are in cows' milk. Asians, Africans (and Afro-Americans) and Latinos/as tend to be lactose intolerant in greater numbers than Europeans.

Now, it's quite possible your mom doesn't realize that a veg*an diet can be very healthful, and you need to educate yourself and then her on this matter. There are plenty of good websites and books out there, and if you need to know a few good ideas, send me a message, and I will recommend a few.

And it doesn't sound "gay" that the only dairy and eggs you eat are what's in other foods; my boyfriend is pretty much the same way.

There are many many people who cannot eat cheese or other dairy products without discomfort some worse then others. I personally have IBS and I found this out during my last pregnancy that's when I went vegan for about 1 1/2 years.

As soon as I ate any cheese even a very small amount I would be in agony with cramps. It was horrible. I had to learn what foods triggered it and then cut them out.

Talk to your mum let her know how much pain it is causing you. Do some research for her and print it up for her to read about being vegetarian and on dairy alternatives.

You don't get cramps from guilt and you may have an intolerance, allergy,or IBS which would cause your pain. All of these are common.

Let your mom know that mammals were designed to drink milk in infancy only and that, in some populations, the vast majority of people lose their ability to digest it around the age of 4. If you're getting stomach cramps from it you're likely one of the many lactose intolerant and making you eat it or blaming your lactose intolerance on vegetarianism is just ignorant. I assume she thinks you need it for protein, so make sure she also knows that there are many other vegetarian sources of protein that won't give you digestive problems. A good rule of thumb is, if it makes you feel like crap, don't eat it.

You probably aren't lactose intolerant if this only occurs when you eat cheese. You see, lactose intolerant people lack the enzyme necessary to break down lactose, a sugar that occurs naturally in milk. Now when these people drink milk or eat young cheeses they feel sick. cheeses that have a little age on them have had their lactose, or milk sugar, consumed by the bacteria in the cheese. So there's little, if any, lactose still present, so it doesn't make them sick.

You can eat that stuff as a vegetarian its vegans who can't and people often confuse the two.

If you get cramps from eating dairy or chicken by products then its most likely because their not cooked throughly.

Not everyone is lactose tolerant.

Tell your mom to stop being so selfish and consider that maybe you can't handle dairy because it is totally unnatural and makes you sick and in pain.
