If you really cant politely eat it, simply tell them your allergic!!!
Your way out without embarrassing yourself or your host, but do apologize for not telling your host about your "allergy" & next time, take them out to dinner (your treat, of course!) or cook them a meal. This way, no one gets hurt.

1. I'd suggest eating the rest of the dinner, but take a bite or two of the fish to at least try it.
2. Thank the person profusely for making you dinner.
3. If they see that you didn't eat the fish, be truthful, but not hurtful.

If you know they have made the fish before the meal is plated, politely say:
"The fillets look wonderful, but I'm not accustomed to eating seafood. I would love to try it though. Would you mind serving me a small piece."
A good host/hostess will give you a very small piece and let you know that you are welcome to more should it be to your taste. By notifying them before the meal has been served that you are not used to fish, you prevent running the risk of making the cook think that you just don't like THEIR fish.
Please, try to take a few bites. Take it in conjunction with other foods which you have been served. Make sure to have a beverage handy also.
It is not necessary to eat it all, or to try to hide it under other foods etc.

I'd eat it as a mark of respect to the someone who so kindly cooked dinner for me; friendship is far more important than the fish dinner, however much I dislike it.

If you don't like fish at all or that type of fish at all you should let them know.
If you like fish, but the fish they gave you tasted terrible then eat what you can and push the rest aside. If this is someone you don't see often then I don't think you need to say anything, but if it's someone you do see often and could run the risk that the person will make that dish again, then let them know it doesn't taste right to you.

Once i came in from school and my uncle was over and cooked fish and my mother knew fish makes me sick but she didn't say anything so i ate everything else and i told him that i wasn't going to eat any fish because it makes me feel really sick in the end my mother had a huge go at me and told me to make my own dinner so i did but my uncle seemed to understand he wasn't really offended...I tend to always know whats being cooked for me in advance because I'm allergic to onions really badly and i must not eat them at all so i make sure everyone knows!

What would you do if someone gave you a fake burger in place of a real one? You're reaction to that might be same as my reaction to the fish dinner! I did buy fish for my cat but she didn't like it! I tried it and I didn't like it either! Usually cats like fish but there is only one fish she likes and that's Salmon. I'm vegetarian and I did work at Burger King made a fake meat burger. And another worker served it to someone who ordered a Real burger.. whether He didn't deliberate or not I don't know! The Customer didn't notice it be fake meat she got!

Well if you care for the person, be honest. I have been through this before. I was honest and said that I DIDN"T like the food but for you I will try it. So I did. It wasn't horrible but at least they will know you don't like it but you cared enough that they went through the trouble making it so you gave it a try. Also if you just eat it anyway that can lead to that person making it again in the future and you going the same ordeal all over again.

Either lie and say you're not hungry for some reason, but ask to take it home with you. Or, just be a trooper and eat it. A good method of eating things that you dislike is to wash it down with a good drink. I do that with Okra that was cooked for me.
Or, if the time is right. Tell them you'd prefer not to eat it.

I don't like fish, particularly oily and have had to shove my food round the plate to make it look as though i've eaten it. I tend to make sure that I know people's hates before I cook for them, especially seafood or offal. However, if your landed with it, maybe this person is the wrong catch for you!!!!!

Hi, I would just eat the bits that dont have fish on them and then leave the fish they will get the message when the fish is just been left and they will know or ask you then if you like fish and just say you dont when they ask you.
If you like me and cannot even have some fish in your mouth without belching, I wouldnt even attempt to eat it as you will only be pulling funnt faces and thats not good, lol
I went to my husbands grandmas for tea once, and she didnt say what we were havingm usually its like a roast or something, but it was pasta salad, my husband doesnt like pasta, so his grandma made him chips with ham, but when it came to actually having the salad, it was prawn salad, I was panicking as I hate prawns, I hate nearly all fish, I didnt say anything, and the sauce that was with the pasta was lovely so I managed to eat round the prawns.
Then as I was leaving the prawns to one side, his grandma asked if I like prawns and I said no but the pasta is lovely.
She just said they like there fish and veg because it is good for you. I said I wish I could eat more of it but it makes me belch and it just wont go down, his grandma understud.
I was a bit weary when his grandma said pasta salad as I dont like veg either and when she asked if we both like pasta salad when he said I do and he doesnt, then she puts him bloody ham and chips and Im stuck with pasta salad with veg and prawns, but it was ok as I just ate round the prawns and didnt pick out anyveg of the table, so it was ok.
If you cant stomach it just leave the fish and eat round it and get something when you get back home. I always ask people before I cook them things as then I know what they like, as not everyone likes the same things these days, lol
