I recently had the police visit me and issue a citation for noise. I received a warning and was told there would be a fine if we got in trouble again. Apparently the police also contact the university i attend and told them about our noise issue. Is this legal? No fine no criminal activities, only a written citation. I live in Santa Clara CA if this helps. I'm concerned with the legality of releasing my information.

I do not lie on campus. I live 3 blocks away in a town house that is unassociated with the university.

Are you living on campus or renting at some type of univeristy owned building? If where you had the party had anything to do with the university then? If you are then it would make sense that they did.
