1. I had my initial outbreak (I didn't know what it was at the time) and went to the doctor to find out what was going on. She took one look at me and said "it's genital herpes".
2. Sores, flu-like symptoms, swollen glands, and EXTREME pain.
3. I had about 3 the first year and about one outbreak every year after that. I have been outbreak free for over 2 years now.
4. It doesn't. I do everything that any "normal" person without herpes does.
5. Scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the easiest I would rate it a 1.
6. Yes, every single person I have told has been extremely supportive of me. My mother was with me when I was diagnosed (I was 17 years old) and she was the one who really got me through the first few months.
7. Yes
8. No. I only take medication when I have an outbreak or "feel" an outbreak coming on. I take acyclovir when I have an outbreak.
9. Manageable. Of course the outbreaks are painful, but when I am not having one I live a completely normal and happy life. I have a great family, great fiance, and I couldn't be happier. I don't let having genital herpes control and ruin my life.
10. Being young and ignorant. Thinking "that would never happen to me". Boy, was I wrong.
Take care!

1. I had an outbreak and got tested for the virus.
2. I had painful leisons in my genital area. I also have had a few severe yeast infections (which could possibly be an outbreak).
3. Since I found out in June, I've had about 3 recognizable outbreaks.
4. I don't think about it much...it's kinda been on the back burner, so it doesn't affect me that much. It's difficult when I have to disclose. It's not that I've been rejected...I just feel awkward.
5. 9. It's still sinking in...I have been putting off actually thinking about it because I want to concentrate on my education and career. So it's been pretty tough to come to terms with it.
6. My friends are there for me, but guys that I have disclosed to, I feel, it deters the development of the relationship. (I disclose early so that I don't get attached and then he dumps me b/c I have the virus.)
7. I am almost sure I know who I got Simplex 2 from, but I didn't know I had Simplex 1. I don't really get cold sores and I had braces, so bumps in my mouth that I though were from braces could have been cold sores.
8. I only take Valtrex when I have an outbreak. I don't take suppressive therapy, but doesn't mean I won't.
9. I live day to day. Like I said, I don't think about it much...it's been on the back burner.
10. It's not that I lived a promiscuous life, but it was probably the unprotected sex. However, condoms are only 50% effective against Herpes anyways.

My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. Everywhere I read it says it stops flaring up so much after time, but its not getting less frequent for her. She's been on Antiviral meds the whole time, too. She also has type 1 diabetes which she has had her whole life, which really weakens her immune system. Will it ever get better?
But after a friend share this video everything has changed.

Yes, for two years now. I have genital hsv-1 though not hsv-2.
1. I went to the doctor with a 'cut' at the entrance to my vagina and discharge which I originally thought was a yeast infection, however it became very painful and I realised there was a bit more to it. The tender and swollen genital glands were a bit of a giveaway. Still the diagnosis came as a bit of a shock
2. 'Cut' at vaginal entrance, a bit of a rash or redness on labia but nothing much, mainly just running a terrible fever and feeling like crap with abdominal pain thrown in. No blisters whatsoever.
3. I'm unlucky, despite the fact I have hsv-1 which should recur rarely, I get outbreaks on average about 6 times a year. Most are very mild, almost unnoticeable, and go very quickly.
4. I'm with a steady boyfriend who isn't bothered by it and although I've told three men altogether and a few female friends, no one has seen it as a big deal or run or anything. In fact no one I told has had anything but a positive reaction
5. About a 4, I think. A 2 for the physical symptoms - it is a pain I have so many outbreaks even if they are mild, because they remind me I have it and make me feel a bit crap. However, despite an overwhelmingly positive reaction, I worry about it every day, in terms of telling any men in the future. It is just that I know if a man had any hint of an 'eeeww' reaction or was negative, even to begin with, I'd walk because I couldn't handle it. Our sexual relaionship would be doomed before it started. I want to feel fanciable, not like someone is trying to get their head around something in order to come near me.
6. No man I have ever told has been bothered. I have unprotected sex with my boyfriend, and the other two would have been prepared to have unprotected sex with me if we were in a steady relationship without any concern at all. However, all of then had hsv-1 orally so they knew their chances of catching it were pretty slim. My friends are fine with it, they just say it isn't a big deal. The only people so far who have made me feel bad are my parents, who didn't want to share a bathroom with me at first.
7. Yes, my on-off long term boyfriend of the last eight years. He gets cold sores a lot, every few weeks.
8. No, they are too stingy to prescribe it to me here in the UK. It costs too much.
9. Just a bit of a pain every now and then, very minor really. No worse than oral cold sores. Just the stigma makes you feel rather insecure.
10. Having a boyfriend who got cold sores when I didn't get them. He was a nurse and we were conscious of the possibility I could catch them genitally, so he only gave me oral sex about once a year for the first six years of our relationship because he didn't feel like he could live with giving me genital herpes. Then one day he gave me oral sex, can't have happened for 12 months and it only lasted for a few seconds. A few days later I developed symptoms. Just unfortunate really. I haven't slept around - he was the first boyfriend I had.
