I once remember accidentally piercing the skin in my arm with a knitting needle while trying to stick a button to a shirt and causing a bit of blood to spew out. Also the tip of the needle was burnt. Could I have HIV transmitted to me without knowing it? I mean, who knows where this needle has last been? May sound stupid, but I constantly think about it and worry. Someone please help calm me down.

Hi Sweetie,
Well u can be rest-assured u didn't pick up HIV from that after all, what r the chances 1 minute prior 2 U using that needle an HIV person stuck it in him/her too??? Pretty slim don't U agree? But U did do the right thing & asked 2 protect yourself which I commend you on & that's nowhere near stupid, better safe than sorry. If HIV blood is airbourne on an object for a certain amt. of time, the Virus will die anyway. This is a joke for men, You can't sew a button on with
a knitting needle, all U can do with it is knit. & you my Dear, need someone to teach U how to sew a button on. Agree? ha-ha! Please consider yourself safe & in good health. But never be afraid to ask anything R
not sure of, as that is a part of ignorance in some people, not you. Take Good Care & Lot's o' Luck in R Endeavour's fr: Canada!

HIV is not airborne and can not survive in the air. which pretty much means that if someone had stuck the needle in their skin and got their infected blood on it (BTW u burn the needle to sterilize it, burning it kills everything on it) they would have to immediately pull it out and plunge it into your arm to transmit it. Once their blood is in the air if it site there and dries, it kills whatever virus is going on. You can get aids from sharing needles because the blood is inside the needle and (crackheads) one after the other they use the needle. you can kiss someone with HIV and not get it. Relax. Just wear a condom when you become sexually active, don't become a heroin user, and you should stay pretty much HIV free!

HIV dies within 2 seconds after leaving the body. diseases get transmitted through injection needles because the blood can hang out in a place that is not exposed to air (inside the syringe) Dont worry about having HIV, however, a dirty needle can give you hepatitis like Pam Anderson Lee

I think the chance is almost zero. HIV virus cannot live for very long outside the body. Check out the following page for information about how HIV is and is not transmitted? If you are really concerned, then take a test.

blood to blood contact will transmit HIV but it is unlikely that HIV will survive on a knitting needle long enough so that it will infect someone after a day or maybe after even a few hours. Don't worry :) !

The needle had to have stuck soemone infected first. The virus doesnt live too long at all outside of it's host waiting to be accidently picked by some dude knitting heart shaped buttons on his salmon shirt.

Unless somebody with aids got fluid on the knitting needle and you punctured your skin before the fluid dried then you should be safe. Also symptoms of HIV usually show up pretty quickly.

If you are that worried, why don't you go have a test? They are confidential unless you turn out to have HIV, then I don't know what they do. But don't keep worrying needlessly, plus, if you did have it through this really weird unlikely way of getting it, you would want to start treatments as soon as possible.

hey the only ways that HIV can be transmitted is by bodily fluids, genital to genital touching. Also if u're afraid bout blood, it has to have blood on it; if there isn't i'm sure that there is nothing to worry about

No I doubt it.
If you are truly worried none of us can give a true answer. So go to a doctor and have them check for HIV
