My best friend is a also a vegan like me, or so I thought. Today I went to go over to her house to make banners for a protest when I noticed she had an exterminator at her house!!!!! I was shocked, how could she hurt those innocent beings. Should I confront her on this?

She lives be herself. So it cannot be anybody else. I know she complained of having some mice, but an exterminator? I think she is putting her very morals in jeopardy!

The rest of you just don't get it, there are other ways to get rid of pest s then killing them. She might as well go and order up a disgsting steak. EHHHH

Does your friend rent her home or own it? Sometimes when you rent a home the owners will want to have the home exterminated regularly to keep it from becoming infested. I'm not an advocate of exterminating myself, but if it isn't her house, she may have no choice. Was the exterminator there to kill mice or bugs. They may have been there for termites, and very well could have been a non-toxic exterminator. I believe termites should be eliminated from your home, because they can cause a lot of damage. I guess what I'm trying to say is that before you reach a final conclusion you should get the facts from her first in a non-confrontational manner. Then the two of you can discuss it.

Exterminating what? Because I'm sorry, but as much as I'm all for not killing everything in this world, some things just have to go. And we hunt for survival. It's how the world works. I dare you to find a vegan wolf or a vegan bear. It's survival. Tell me, do you like living with say, fleas? Being constantly bitten having your blood sucked out of you? What do you do when you get a cold or flu? Do you stick it out? Because wouldn't that be killing it to take medicine? Have you ever been vaccinated? Bacteria and viruses are living beings too. And aren't plants alive too? Like the fly trap, it eats bugs. They say plants respond to voices. So by eatting them are you killing a living being? How far does being a vegan go? How do you define what you can and cannot eat? Why are you a vegan, how did it become part of your life? As a meat eatting hunter of America I am curious. I don't know anyone who doesn't eat meat. Please enlighten me. And the answer to your question, yes be mad, very mad. And confront her.

No, you should not confront her on this. Here are the reasons why. It is not our place to judge the things that others do. That's what God is for. Also keep in mind that not every one believes things as deeply as you do. I don't believe in killing insects and things outside of the house. But inside of the house is another story. It would be great if we all could just co-exist like that. But it doesn't work that way. You have to live in reality. There's nothing great about finding bugs in your cereal. There's nothing great about looking to bake and finding bugs in your flour. Allowing her home, her private space to become infested, is not a healthy living condition. Esp. with the knowledge that insects carry some incurable diseases. Ask yourself, if you'd rather her exterminate (ahead of time before infestation), or would you rather visit her bedside in the hospital. With whatever answer you decided, now turn it around and put yourself in the reversal of that question....what if it were you?

All of us have an area of compromise. You even have yours and it is not fair or just to be judging someone else for actions that you did not even have the courtesy to ask or discuss with her. Is she renting? Did her landlord order an exterminator? Maybe her fear of rodents caused her to do something that you feel is unethical, but she does not. We all have our own perceptions of situations.
You choose the words confrontation.....if you are vegetarian because of your stance of peace and equality and kindness to animals, you can't have the same stance with a fellow human being?
Vegetarianism is a healthy DIET....it must never be used as a political, ethical debate.

haha no should go stay in a roach motel on the side of the rode for a few weeks and see what kind of sickness you get. c'mon now im sure most vegans are atheist, because thats what makes you guys so unique and special. So as an atheist, evolution is prolly how you see the human race coming about. we evolved sharp, pointed teeth that are pointed and sharp to tear into flesh. Anyone who is a vegan and spouting off nonsense such as yourself is a very uneducated, self-congratulating loser. Go take some college (not community college) chemistry and biology before you start proclaiming your brilliance.

Eh??? What is she exterminating? I hope they are pests and well pests that spread disease and germs don't belong with human life albeit vegan so...i don't think you should think any less of your friend if she has an exterminator. If you still feel stongly about it , maybe you should tell her so...

I think you should confront her. Having your home exterminated is definitely not vegan.
To all of you who are confused, a vegan cannot harm a living creature. Veganism is more than just diet.

Absolutely not...infestation issues have nothing to do with being a vegan. Two unrelated issues. It isn't as if she's trying to exterminate cows or chickens!

Umm...is this TROLL Ashley?
Well....I'll give an answer anyways. Humane Traps work well for mice. There are also a lot of folk remedy's to insect infestation. Look into them and share them with her as viable options.
