Child Meat Delicacy??

Question

There was a time in history when "child meat" was considered a delicacy to some nobles? I have heard conflicting stories about this one. I also heared recently on the news that in some place, such as North Korea, it does occur that children are slaughtered for their meat. How much truth is their in these stories in the past and present?

This sounds like one of those stories which goes around but no one can prove. Very much like an urban legend. However, Nikita Krushev wrote in his memoirs about being out in the Russian countryside during a terrible famine and being told of peasants who had cannibalized their own child while crazed with hunger.

Cannabalism is a re-occuring theme when one class of people want to 'demonize' another. There is current Arab literature that accuses Isralies of cannabalism. It occurs in the animal world where the dominant male will catch and eat cubs of another male to make the female receptive to breeding with him and thereby spreading his genes. Most people find this repugnant, but it's the survival of the fittest. It's a short leap to accuse your enemies of baby eating to make them seem less than human. So, did it occur...maybe. Was it widespread...no.

I never read that, and I'm a history major. I have seen Internet photos, whether they were fake or not, I don't know. I think it would be a detestable, and barbaric practice, as well as a action done by the insane. Anyone who eats human flesh needs to be put away...
