You cannot be a vegan or otherwise until you get old enough to make your own decisions.

This is my help from Washington, DC, United States of America.

This question is ridiculous because Vegans are against harming animals. A baby drinking it's mother's milk is natural and doesn't hurt her. In fact, if they don't breastfeed, they get uncomfortable.. And unless you think the same goes for cows, yes, a cow is uncomfortable if not milked, but it would not choose to be constantly impregnated and have it's babies taken from it after 2 days, and be pumped full of hormones so it produces more milk than is natural.

My vegan sis-in-law followed a healthy vegan diet throughout both her pregnancies, and while breastfeeding. Alas, with her first baby, she had to switch to soy formula because she simply didn't produce enough (a common trait in her family, including omnivorous relatives) She had no choice. Her baby was losing weight. BUt she's having alot better luck with her 2nd baby, who is now about 2 months old. But, based on her family history, etc.. I have a feeling she won't be able to breastfeed past about 6 months... Who knows.

Yes, most vegan mothers want to breast feed. the infant is an infant, it cannot choose :/

i would consider it incredibly irresponsible to feed a new born human infant anything other than human breast milk.

any artificial formulation will not even be close to good for the infant and i believe, will seriously damage the child leading to many development complications.

the majority of vegans and vegetarians are of the exact same opinion as me, only dangerously uninformed or irresponsible people would ever advocate feeding a human infant anything other than human breast milk.

breast milk is not an animal product, its a human product!

furthermore, its the healthiest and best thing for a human infant because its specifically made by the mother to provide for new born infant.

just like cows milk is specifically for new born calves :/

That is the mothers choice. As your body grows you stop developing lactase which helps you digest lactose so once the child reaches that age I'm sure they would probably end up switching to a formula. However, not every woman can breast feed for health purposes. For example if the woman is on any form of medication, is sick, or is experiencing any form of pain it's not wise to breast feed. As for what the child wants I would say whatever is healthy.

All mammals produce milk for their babies. A cow produces milk for her baby--that's why dairy cows are continually impregnated, so they produce milk. The calves are taken away within hours of birth. Okay, digressing a bit here--a cat produces milk for her babies, a dog produces milk for her babies, a rat produces milk for her babies, a giraffe produces milk for her baby, a bear produces milk for her babies, etc. A human produces milk for her baby.

The age at which the baby animal is weaned varies from species to species, but after that, said animal never drinks milk again, much less from another species. Humans have bollixed things up by not only drinking the milk of another species, but drinking it well after infancy.

In short, a wise vegan mom will breastfeed her baby unless she doesn't produce enough milk (which also happens to omnivores, so it has nothing to do with being vegan). In that case, she will probably try a soy formula.

Are you born a Vegan? Or does one learn to be one? In the animal kingdom (which includes humans..by the way) we all search for that milk supply from our mothers. If we are deprived of it by whatever means theirs a possibility that our immune systems will be under attack the rest of our lives. The antibodies that infants receive from their mothers milk make us able to cope with the first diseases we and all animals face at birth.

why would a baby chose to be breastfed or to be a vegan? breastmilk is the best thing for a baby, wouldn't you want them to have the best start in life that you possibly can. When they are a bit older then maybe they can make the choice. Children need calcium to help them grow properly. This question is just silly.

If any infant were able to make an informed choice, they would all choose to be breastfed. It's Nature's perfect food for an infant.

If you mean from a cow, goat or other animal then NO! Human breastmilk is vegan safe.

the vegan creed is not to eat animal protein as it's unnatural and results in animal cruelty. Breast milk is created precisely for human consumption.
