People who smoke are addicted to the nicotine, both physically and mentally. Some use it as a crutch in social situations. Others smoke to relieve frustration, stress or anxiety. Still others use cigarettes for the pleasure they derive from the act of lighting up and inhaling the smoke. There are many reasons why people smoke, none of them beneficial to the health of the person. It's far better to never start than to try and quit. So if you hate them, that's a good sign that you'll find it much easier to quit than someone who has smoked for 30 or 40 years, and struggles to quit the habit.

It is a filthy expensive addiction that some of us have. Thank your lucky stars either you do not have a tendency for addiction or it was the bad taste. I smoke because I enjoy it.
